OAKLAND, Calif. — The Los Angeles Clippers pulled off the biggest comeback in NBA postseason history Monday night when they rallied from a 31-point deficit to win Game 2 over the Golden State Warriors 135-131 at Oracle Arena.
“We changed a couple things offensively and defensively on the fly in the third,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. “And it worked out for us.”
The Clippers bested the Lakers’ rally from a 29-point deficit to beat the Seattle Supersonics in 1989. The Clippers also came back from 27 points down in a playoff win over the Memphis Grizzlies in 2012.
Bench star Lou Williams led the Clippers with 36 points and 11 assists, going 13-of-22 from the field and 8-for-10 from the free throw line.
With the win, the Clippers tied their first-round series at 1-1. Game 3 is Thursday in Los Angeles.
Rivers said he told his players at halftime to keep grinding despite the seemingly insurmountable deficit.
“I was honest with them,” Rivers said. “I said ‘I don’t know how, but we’re going to figure this thing out.’ “
