UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic both expressed interest on Wednesday in fighting each other at International Fight Week on July 6.

Jones began the back-and-forth by tweeting “I don’t think you guys are ready to witness (Stipe Miocic) and I, would July give you all enough time?”

Miocic later responded, “been ready see you there.”

Jones, the longtime UFC light heavyweight champion, is coming off a unanimous decision win against Anthony Smith at UFC 235. He only has two blemishes out of 26 professional fights. After defeating Daniel Cormier by knockout in 2017, the result was overturned to a ‘no contest’ after Jones tested positive for the banned drug Turinabol. Jones also was disqualified for using an illegal elbow against Matt Hammill in 2009, but he was dominating the entire fight up until that point.

Miocic is arguably the most dominant UFC heavyweight champion ever, having set the record for consecutive title defenses with three. He lost his belt after Cormier knocked him out in the first round of their UFC 226 bout last July and has not fought since.

Jones would move up to heavyweight for the hypothetical matchup and retain his UFC light heavyweight belt regardless of the outcome.
