Texas freshman outfielder Eric Kennedy earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors, while Longhorn right-hander Bryce Elder was named Pitcher of the Week. Oklahoma reliever Jason Ruffcorn was tabbed Newcomer of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award winners.
Kennedy batted .474/.583/.579 in games against Arkansas and TCU last week. The outfielder registered a pair of four-hit games, including a 4-for-5 evening with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored against TCU on Saturday.
Elder, a sophomore, allowed just one run on five hits in a career high-tying eight innings pitched against TCU. Elder struck out seven batters and forced a pair of double plays in the contest.
Ruffcorn pitched in all five games last week and earned three saves to lead the Sooners to a perfect 5-0 mark on the week. The junior came in on Sunday with the bases loaded and one out, rolling a double play and facing the minimum in the ninth for the five-out save.
Kennedy and Ruffcorn are first-time honorees, while the weekly accolade is the second of the season for Elder.
