Texas infielder Masen Hibbeler was tabbed Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while Texas Tech right-hander Caleb Kilian was named Pitcher of the Week. TCU junior Austin Henry was honored as the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award winners.
Hibbeler batted .583/.643/.583 in four starts at shortstop last week. On Sunday against No. 9 Texas Tech, the senior drove in the eventual game-winning run with an eighth inning RBI single. He finished the week perfect in fielding with four putouts and nine assists.
Kilian did not allow a run and surrendered just one hit in the Red Raiders’ 3-0 shutout against No. 18 Texas on Saturday. The right-hander retired 16 straight Longhorns and registered four strikeouts in his longest outing of the season.
Henry, a junior transfer from Walters State Community College, drove in a run in all four games and has a five-game RBI streak. Henry registered multiple hits in four straight games. Six of his nine RBIs this past week came with two outs, as the Horned Frogs collected a series sweep against Eastern Michigan.
All three award winners this week are first-time honorees.
