Denver’s Emily Glynn and Alexis Vasquez and Oklahoma’s trio of Brenna Dowell, Carly Woodard and Karrie Thomas earned Big 12 gymnastics weekly honors for the tenth week of competition.
Dowell received Gymnast of the Week, for the third time this season, after setting a career and season high in the all-around. The senior earned a 39.725 with four scores of 9.925 or better, taking home the all-around and floor titles against No. 7 Michigan.
Glynn and Woodard received Co-Event Specialist of the Week. Glynn once again tied her season high with a 9.925 on bars and finished third overall on the event. Her score contributed to Denver’s event score of 49.475, which matches the second-highest score in DU history. Woodard was instrumental in leading the Sooners to a season-best 49.625 on beam, tallying a 9.925 on the event. It was the sophomore’s third score of 9.9 or better this season and good for third place at the meet.
Vasquez and Thomas tabbed Co-Newcomer of the Week. Vasquez scored a 9.9 on beam, earning her a tie for second overall in the meet against No. 18 Nebraska, No. 21 Arizona State and Pittsburgh. Her score contributed to Denver’s 49.450 performance on beam, which is the seventh-highest score in program history. Thomas helped the Sooners to a 49.550 on bars, earning a 9.9 on the apparatus in the No. 3 spot. The sophomore transfer now has five scores of 9.9 or better on bars this season.
This is the third career honor for Thomas, Glynn, Vasquez and Woodard and 10th for Dowell.
