The Texas men’s and women’s programs extended their top position on the leader board following day three of the Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship, earning 12 first place finishes.
David Dixon started the Mountaineers off on the right foot after taking first place in the 100-yard fly with a time of 46.73. The sophomore claimed WVU’s first gold medal of the meet.
The Texas men’s swimming squad had a dominant night placing three races in the nation’s top 10 season performances. Longhorn Braden Vines won the 400-yard IM, setting the 10th fastest time in the NCAA this year (3:422.55) while Townley Haas registered the seventh-highest NCAA time in the 200-yard freestyle earning a time of 1:32:42. Junior Ryan Harty also set the seventh fastest time and broke a championship record in the 100-yard back with a time of 45.19.
Juniors Grayson Campbell and Vicky Xu took home the 3-meter diving events. Grayson secured the men’s 3-meter victory following a 461.60 point performance while Xu notched Kansas’ first gold medal of the Big 12 Championship with a score of 380.00.
Texas closed out the night by sweeping the men’s and women’s 200-yard freestyle relays. The men recorded a time of 1:17.00 while the women finished in 1:28.46.
The 2019 Big 12 swimming and diving champions will be named Saturday evening. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. CT. Women’s platform diving finals begin at 4:40 p.m. CT and swimming finals at 6 p.m. CT. Fans can tune into FloSwimming.com to watch the live stream.
