Big 12 Indoor Track & Field is Headed to Lubbock

After a six year stint of hosting the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship, Iowa State is passing the torch on to Texas Tech for this year’s championship. For the first time in Big 12 history, Lubbock, Texas, will play host to the prestigious championship.

The defending Big 12 Champions and No. 1 ranked Red Raiders, along with the No. 13 ranked Lady Raiders, lead the Big 12 in the national rankings. TTU looks to be the first program since Texas in 2015 to take home both the men’s and women’s titles in the same year.

Rounding out the top-20 for the men in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings are No. 7 Texas and No. 20 Iowa State. Kansas, Baylor and Kansas State rank No. 24, No. 26 and No. 28, respectively, to cap off the Big 12’s presence in the top-30.

On the women’s side, the 2018 Indoor Track & Field Champions rank No. 21 Texas in the national poll, while Kansas (No. 22), Oklahoma State (No. 40), Kansas State (No. 41) and Oklahoma (No. 46) rank within the top-50.

Andrew Hudson (Texas Tech), at the time (Jan. 18), ran the fastest 200-meter in the world at 20.41, a time that currently stands at No. 2 in the world. Jonathan Jones (Texas) captured the No. 3 fastest time in the world in the 400-meter this season to set the Barbados Indoor National record (45.38).

Texas’ Kynnedy Flannel highlights the Big 12 women with a No. 3 world ranking in the 200-meter race, as she holds firmly atop the leagues standings in both the 200-meter and the 60-meter.

FloTrack will be broadcasting all events at the championship on its online streaming site, FloTrack.org.

The 2019 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship is set to begin on Friday, February 22, at 10 a.m. CT with the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash, a part of the pentathlon for the women and heptathlon for the men, respectively. To purchase tickets or to see a schedule of events, information can be found on the Indoor Track & Field Championship Page.
