Iowa State’s Bridget Carleton was named Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, while West Virginia’s Madisen Smith was tabbed Freshman of the Week for the third time.
Carleton averaged 29.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals, as the Cyclones went 1-1 last week. The senior scored 34 points and corralled 10 rebounds at TCU, while adding 24 points and seven rebounds in the triumph over Oklahoma State. The weekly award is the 10th all-time in her career.
For a second consecutive week, Smith picked up weekly freshman honors after tallying 18.5 points and 6.0 assists. The rookie scored 20 points at Texas Tech to become the first WVU freshman since 2000 to score 20-plus points in back-to-back games. In the win over TCU, she added 17 points and dished out a career-high eight assists.
