Oklahoma State sophomore Vivian Gray earned Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while West Virginia’s Madisen Smith was named Freshman of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award recipients.
Gray averaged 27.5 points and shot 55.9 percent (19-of-34) from the field in two games last week. The sophomore scored a career-high 33 points and made 11-of-16 field goal attempts (66.8%) in the Cowgirls’ third-straight win over Oklahoma. She followed with a 22-point performance at Texas Tech to earn her first career weekly honor.
Smith netted a career-best 24 points at Iowa State and became the first Mountaineer freshman to score 20 or more points in a game since 2016. The Greenville, South Carolina, native made 9-of-18 (50%) from the field and connected on five treys. The weekly award is the second for Smith this season.
