Oklahoma’s trio of Olivia Trautman, Jade Degouveia and Karrie Thomas along with Denver’s Alexandria Ruiz earned Big 12 gymnastics weekly awards for the fifth week of competition.
Trautman was named Gymnast of the Week after having a career day against No. 2 Florida. The freshman competed in the all-around for the first time in her career and set or tied a career high on all four events. Trautman also posted the second-highest score in the nation in the all-around with a career-high 39.725.
Degouveia tabbed Event Specialist of the Week for the third time this season, after being an essential part to the Sooners’ victory over Florida. The junior tallied a career-high on floor with a 9.975 to take home a share of the event title.
Thomas and Ruiz received Co-Newcomer of the Week. Thomas helped the Sooners beat Florida in the head-to-head on bars after posting a career-high 9.925 in the No. 3 spot. In the three meets that she’s competed in this season, the sophomore has posted a 9.9 or better in two of three. Ruiz took home a share of the floor event title after putting up a career-high 9.925, which counted towards DU’s highest-ever road score of 197.450.
This is the first career honor for Ruiz, the second for Thomas and fourth for Trautman and Degouveia.
