OU and KU Earn Weekly Big 12 Tennis Honors

January 29, 2019

The Big 12 announced its tennis weekly award winners as Oklahoma’s Spencer Papa and Oleksandra Korashvili and Kansas’ Anastasia Rychagova garnered recognition.

Papa, the Big 12 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, earned victories in two of his three matches last week as he led Oklahoma at the No. 1 singles spot. The redshirt senior defeated the No. 16 ranked Alex Lebedev of Notre Dame in straight sets. In doubles, unranked Papa and partner Jake Van Emburgh quickly took down the No. 27 team in the nation.

For the first time this season, Big 12 Women’s Co-Tennis Players of the Week were selected as Korashvili and Ruchagova earned the nod.

Unranked Korashvili took down the No. 15 player in the nation at the No. 2 singles line, defeating Christina Rosca of No. 2 Vanderbilt 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The junior and her partner Kianah Motosono clinched both doubles points for OU over the weekend.

Rychagova went undefeated through the entirety of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament, notching a singles victory and two doubles wins against opponents from No. 10 Oklahoma State and No. 18 Illinois. The 2016 Big 12 Freshman of the Year capped off the weekend without dropping a set.

This week’s award marks the third all-time for both Papa and Rychagova, and the first for Korashvili.
