Four Big 12 Teams Ranked in National Preseason Polls

January 29, 2019

The USA TODAY Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and ESPN.com/USA Softball announced their Preseason Top 25 Poll, as four Big 12 programs garnered recognition. Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor and Oklahoma State are represented in both polls.

OU led the way with the No. 4/4 spot, earning the highest ranking of a Big 12 program in the polls. The Sooners, a 2018 Women’s College World Series semifinalist, swept the conference regular season and tournament titles the last two seasons.

The Longhorns, Bears and Cowgirls were placed at No. 16/16, No. 18/19 and No. 22/21, respectively. All three teams are coming off NCAA Regional appearances a year ago.

The USA TODAY SPORTS/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by 32 NCAA Division I head coaches with one representing each of the NCAA’s Division I Conferences. The ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I Conferences in the 10 USA Softball regions, as well as members of the national and local media who consistently cover Division I Softball across the country.
