Four Big 12 women’s basketball standouts earned weekly accolades for their week 11 performances. K-State’s Kayla Goth and Texas Tech’s Brittany Brewer were tabbed Big 12 Players of the Week, while Iowa State’s Ashley Joens and K-State’s Christianna Carr shared Freshmen of the Week honors. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award recipients.
Last week, Goth averaged a double-double with 15.0 points and 10.5 assists in K-State’s pair of wins. In the upset victory over No. 11 Texas, the senior scored 20 points and dished out 12 assists. She scored 10 points and collected nine assists at Texas Tech, as she earned her second weekly honor this season.
Brewer, a first-time weekly honoree, boasted 25.0 points and 11.0 rebounds for the Lady Raiders last week. She scored 27 points and went 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the field at TCU. The junior contributed with 23 points and 11 rebounds in a close game against K-State.
Joens averaged 14.0 points and 4.0 rebounds against West Virginia and Oklahoma last week. The freshman from Iowa City connected on 8-of-13 (61.5%) from the field and led the Cyclones with a career-best 25 points in the win over the Sooners.
Carr tallied an average of 13.5 points and 2.5 rebounds, as the Wildcats went 2-0 last week. She netted 19 points in K-State’s upset victory over No. 11 Texas and added eight points in a victory at Texas Tech.
The weekly freshman accolades are the first for Joens and Carr this season.
