There will be a former Florida player hoisting the Lombardi Trophy again this NFL season, and for the seventh time in the last eight years.
With former UF players on the rosters of the four teams in this Sunday’s NFL Conference Championship games, it assures a Gator will be on a Super Bowl roster for 17 straight years. The streak started in 2003 season when offensive linemen Kenyatta Walker and Lomas Brown helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat Mo Collins and the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.
Overall, there have been 52 former Gators make 70 appearances in Super Bowl history, with a former UF player on the winning team 21 times. That, of course, will improve this year.
The Los Angeles Rams have defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. playing a key role. Defensive tackle Dominique Easley is on injured reserve.
The New Orleans Saints have second-year linebacker Alex Anzalone starting at middle linebacker.
The Kansas City Chiefs have wide receiver Demarcus Robinson on the depth chart, while defensive lineman Joey Ivie is on the practice squad.
The New England Patriots have left tackle Trent Brown starting, while rookie defensive back Duke Dawson Jr. is on the roster but was inactive last week.
