CP3 to miss 2-3 weeks for hamstring, sources say

Houston Rockets All-Star guard Chris Paul is expected to miss two to three weeks with a left hamstring strain, league sources told ESPN on Friday.

An MRI earlier in the day revealed a Grade-2 strain and ruled out a more serious injury.

Paul will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Rockets said in a news release.

Paul has missed extended periods five times in his career with hamstring injuries, and timelines can always be shortened or extended based on the sensitivity of the healing processes with hamstrings.

The Rockets will lean on reigning MVP James Harden and Eric Gordon in the backcourt, with coach Mike D’Antoni extending the minutes of guard Brandon Knight.

Paul grabbed the back of his leg after cutting near midcourt in the second quarter of the Rockets’ 101-99 loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday night.

Paul has missed a total of 19 games — including the playoffs — with hamstring injuries in his career, according to ESPN Stats & Information. His teams have gone 9-10 in those games.

Paul has averaged 15.6 points, eight assists and 2.1 steals this season.
