Oklahoma and TCU Earn Week 13 Awards

Three Oklahoma football student-athletes and a defensive player from TCU were honored for their performances during Week 13 of the season.

Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for a record-tying fifth time, while TCU’s Jawuan Johnson garnered his first Defensive Player of the Week accolade. Oklahoma’s Austin Seibert grabbed his sixth career Special Teams Player of the Week recognition, while Sooner freshman running back Kennedy Brooks picked up his third Newcomer of the Week award.

Murray connected on 20 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 114 yards and a score to propel the Sooners to a 59-56 win over No. 12 West Virginia. The junior became the first OU player to register 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in two games this season. The weekly award was the fifth for Murray this season, tying him with Texas’ Ricky Williams who collected five honors in 1998.

Johnson was instrumental in TCU’s win over Oklahoma State, totaling a career-high 12 tackles while adding a tackle-for-loss. He also recorded a 15-yard fumble return for a touchdown on the first play of the second half.

Oklahoma’s Seibert scored 11 points in a 59-56 victory at No. 12 West Virginia, making all eight of his extra-point tries and his only field goal attempt (a 37-yarder). Eight of his 10 kickoffs went for touchbacks and he punted one time for 45 yards.

Brooks, a freshman, rushed 21 times for a career-high 182 yards (8.7 average) and a touchdown in Oklahoma’s victory at West Virginia. His 68-yard TD run gave Oklahoma a 28-21 lead with 3:30 left in the second quarter. It marked his third straight game with at least 165 rushing yards.
