Football student-athletes from Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and TCU were recognized for their on-the-field performances during Week 12 of the season.
Oklahoma State’s Taylor Cornelius was tabbed Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for a second time this season, while TCU’s Ben Banogu took home Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. K-State’s Blake Lynch earned his first Special Teams Player of the Week accolade, as Kansas’ Pooka Williams Jr., garnered his fourth Newcomer of the Week award.
Cornelius threw for 338 yards and five touchdowns on 30-of-46 passing and ran for 106 yards on 13 carries in the Cowboys’ 45-41 victory over No. 7 West Virginia. The senior’s touchdown toss to Tylan Wallace with 42 seconds left completed the comeback win. Cornelius became just the third player in Big 12 history to have 300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and five passing touchdowns in a game.
Banogu had a career-best 10 tackles, including 4.0 tackles-for-loss, a sack and a forced fumble in the Horned Frogs’ victory over Baylor. The senior forced a TFL and a fumble on Baylor’s first two offensive snaps of the game.
K-State’s Lynch connected on a career-high four field goals in the 21-6 triumph over Texas Tech. The sophomore connected on a game-long 41 yard field goal and finished with 13 points in the contest.
Williams finished with a career-high 252 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries against No. 6 Oklahoma. The KU freshman added 18 receiving yards and 42 yards from kick returns to total 312 all-purpose yards against the Sooners.
