The Baylor Bears advanced to the third round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship, for the second straight season, with a 3-1 victory over Vanderbilt Friday night. Baylor is the only remaining Big 12 squad left in the NCAA competition.
The Bears struck first just five minutes into the match with a goal by Giuliana Cunningham. In the second half, goals from Reagan Padgett in the 53rd minute and Julie James in the 74th minute helped secure the win for the bears. This is the first time in program history that BU has advanced to round of 16 in back-to-back seasons.
The 2018 season came to an end for four Big 12 teams: TCU, Texas Tech, Kansas and West Virginia. No. 3 Texas A&M defeated TCU 2-0 and Kansas lost to No. 1 North Carolina 4-1.
Both Texas Tech and West Virginia battled through 110 minutes of play before heading into penalty kicks. No. 3 Virginia advanced over Texas Tech 4-2 in penalty kicks while Wake Forest advanced over West Virginia 6-5.
