Three Earn Week 1 WBB Awards

West Virginia’s Naomi Davenport, Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith and Oklahoma’s Taylor Robertson picked up Big 12 weekly honors for their performances during the opening week of the women’s basketball season.

Davenport registered her first career triple-double and the first for a Mountaineer since 1987 with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in WVU’s season-opening win over Coppin State to earn Player of the Week honors. She completed the week averaging 14.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists for the Mountaineers.

Smith averaged a double-double with 15.7 points and 10 rebounds while shooting .636 from the field in Baylor’s three victories to garner Co-Freshman of the Week. In the win over Arizona State, the freshman tallied 16 points and snatched 11 rebounds, while shooting 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the field.

Also sharing Freshman of the Week, Robertson set the OU single-game freshman record with eight three-pointers in her collegiate debut against Western Kentucky. The McPherson, Kansas, native connected on 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from behind the arc, while grabbing six rebounds in the victory.
