Baylor and West Virginia finished up first-round play of the NCAA Soccer Championship with shutout victories. Fifty percent of Big 12 teams advanced to the second round for the first time since 2008.
The No. 2 seed WVU set a program NCAA Tournament goal record and rolled to a 6-0, opening-round win over Radford. Today’s win pushes the Mountaineers into the second round for the fourth consecutive season and the 13th time in program history.
BU, also ranked as the No. 2 seed, defeated Abilene Christian 2-0 Saturday night. Sarah King scored an early goal to give the Bears a 1-0 lead at the half. Camryn Wendlandt’s goal in the 47th minute helped secure the win. This is fourth time in program history the Bears have made it to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
The Bears and Mountaineers will join Texas Tech, TCU and Kansas in the second round of play next Friday, November 16.
