Three Big 12 teams advanced to the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championship. Texas Tech, TCU and Kansas secured first-round victories in the opening day of NCAA soccer action.
Texas Tech defeated Princeton 3-0 with an early goal by Jade King eight minutes into the game. Two second half goals by Kirsten Davis and Charlotte Teeter helped the Red Raiders secure their victory. Davis ended the match with 4 points, 2 assist and 1 goal.
TCU made history, as the team won its first ever NCAA Tournament match 2-1 against BYU. The Horned Frogs came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit with a pair of goals from Messiah Bright and Yazmeen Ryan.
Kansas advances to the second round after a thrilling overtime win against Saint Louis Friday night. The two squads tied 1-1 after a full 90-minutes of regulation and the first 10 minutes of overtime. In the 104th minute, Katie McClure scored the golden goal to give the Jayhawks a 2-1 win.
Texas’ season came to end after a 1-0 defeat against Virginia Tech. The Longhorns ended their 2018 campaign with a 13-5-3 record.
All three teams will continue their quest in the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championship next Friday, November 16.
