Men’s Basketball Garners Naismith Preseason Honors

Big 12 men’s basketball players garnered recognition on the “Naismith Starting 5” which represents the five positional awards that tie the best in the college game today with the Hall of Famers who have paved the way.

The positional awards include the Bob Cousy Point Guard, Julius Erving Small Forward, Karl Malone Power Forward, Jerry West Shooting Guard and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center.

Dedric Lawson (Kansas), Dean Wade (K-State) and Sagaba Konate (West Virginia) were named to the 21-person watch list for the Karl Malone Power Forward Award.

Quentin Grimes (Kansas), Barry Brown, Jr. (K-State) and Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech) are among the 20 candidates for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year.

Udoka Azubuike (Kansas) represents the Big 12 on the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.

Devon Dotson (Kansas) and Alex Robinson (TCU) are on the preseason list for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year.

By mid-February, the nominees will be narrowed to 10 for each award and reduced to five finalists in March. The winners will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy’s in Los Angeles on April 12, 2019.
