Seniors Kate Glenn (Texas) and Bianca St. Georges (West Virginia) are two of the 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award for women’s soccer.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The Big 12 has now had 19 finalists in the last five seasons.
Glenn currently ranks third in the Big 12 Conference in both assists (six) and total points (16) while rating second on the UT squad with five goals. She has registered points in seven-of-15 matches this season and totaled at least two points in a contest on six occasions.
A native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, St. Georges is the sixth Mountaineer in five years to be named a finalist. Since joining the team, the senior has helped WVU claim three Big 12 Conference titles, as well as make three consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, where the team has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals (2015), College Cup final (2016) and the NCAA Third Round (2017).
Glenn and St. Georges have been outstanding in their academic career. Glenn is majoring in health promotion and behavioral science while St. Georges is studying exercise physiology.
Off the field, both seniors are involved within their communities. Glenn has been involved with a myriad of projects including: “Operation School Bell,” “Orange Santa,” “Supply the Teachers,” “UT & Me National Women & Girls in Sports Day” and the “TexasTHON”. St. Georges has made visits to the WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House, assisted with the program’s efforts to raise money for breast cancer research and volunteered at WVU team camps and clinic.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior Class Award website through November 18. Fans votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Women’s College Cup in December.
