It's going to be a rough one for me - three girls, three soccer games, while trying to watch my beloved Buckeyes take on the not beloved but very much liked Luke Fickell led Bearcats. I won't be able to really set in and watch football until the 3:30 kicks. Annoying, since all five noon kicks in the B1G have some interest to them.
Noon
Cincinnati at OSU, ABC
Army at Michigan, Fox
Rutgers at Iowa, FS1
Syracuse at Maryland, ESPN
Vanderbilt at Purdue, BTN
3:30
Central Michigan at Wisconsin, BTN
Nebraska at Colorado, Fox
Illinois at UConn, CBSSN
Eastern Illinois at Indiana, BTN
7:30
Buffalo at Penn State, Fox
Western Michigan at MSU, BTN
10:30
Minnesota at Fresno St., CBSSN
Others
Texas A&M at Clemson, 3:30, ABC
LSU at Texas, 7:30, ABC

8am tee time for me. I'll be off the course in plenty of time to watch the Huskers at 2:30
FORE!!!
-
After I take the wife to the airport, I've got nothing to do and all day to do it.
-
Got up early (for me) on a Saturday. Pulled out the french press. Ground some beans. Now I'm up and going. Will try to get to the gym and then briefly to lab before the game at noon.
-
Let’s be real. Ohio State is going to destroy Cinci. Fickell ain’t getting sheeeet.
-
OSU 21. UC 13 at tha half.
OSU 41. UC 20 final.
-
OSU 21. UC 13 at tha half.
OSU 41. UC 20 final.
Accurate.
-
Taking kids for a hike this morning. Small state park just down road from us has some good trails. Gonna get out there before it’s crazy hot.
-
most of the games are a snooze fest this week. Except for LSU-Texas and A&M-Clemson.
-
There is always unexpected great contests by sad/pitiful/obscure/forgotten programs.
-
Pulled out the french press. Ground some beans.
Kind of messy & time consuming aren't they?
-
I have a French press too. His name is Pierre. He doesn't grind the beans though, instead he stomps them like grapes.
Must be a French thing.
Hit some parties downtown last night, lots of LSU folks in town. They were mostly friendly. Headed down to campus after Gameday for some tailgating-- it'll be the first time in 20 something years that I'm going tailgating without being the host. I'm REALLY looking forward to that.
Hook 'em Horns! BTHOLSU!

A little fun for this morning....

-
Kind of messy & time consuming aren't they?
Very! But when you have the time, it's a pleasant ritual. And I've never had a better cup of coffee. It's the very best when the beans are good and freshly ground, but a french press also does better with old mediocre grounds than the drip method.
-
Just gotta survive those early haymakers.

A couple on the elevator had on OSU gear, so I made the Big O sign. They were joined at breakfast by another wearing off yellow and blue.
I stopped by to ask if it was really 13 of 14.
They laughed. Probably going on the same cruise.
-
With McCaffery running close behind, if Shea doesn't fix that fast he'll lose his job and won't get it back.
-
Frosh tackle Ryan Hayes completely missed his assignment which allowed that pressure bc the defender went running free untouched. That’s on him.
Shea trying to play hero ball and doing something dumb and careless with the ball- that’s on him. I like Shea’s game a lot- but the kid is careless with the ball. A lot. And I don’t like that. At all.
-
That triple option bs is impossible to stop on 4th and 1. Damn.
-
Charbonnet and Turner both look real good. Instead of giving them carries and feeding them they go pass happy and Shea fumbles the ball.
This is the game where you run the ball and play keep away. Keep that annoying triple option off the field and control the clock.
-
After a punt trade OSU punches it in. Fields dropping back and then taking off a big part of the offense right now.
-
My Syracuse to the CFP pick on life support
-
Flip over to see Army punch it in.
-
Flip over to see Army punch it in.
Well I knew it soon as Shea fumbled the damn ball. Kid is way too careless with the ball.
-
Michigan's run defense continuing to struggle
-
Michigan's run defense continuing to struggle
Most run defenses struggle against this type of look. They just don’t see it that much.
-
Michigan's run defense continuing to struggle
Michigan may struggle on rush D this year, but the performance of a 3 DE front against a triple option isn't the time for evaluation.
-
Ronnie Bell HAS to catch that. Starting to think this guy might be another Breaston. Great athlete, piss poor WR that can’t catch the damn ball.
-
Ronnie Bell HAS to catch that. Starting to think this guy might be another Breaston. Great athlete, piss poor WR that can’t catch the damn ball.
Bell has been terrible. He hesitated on that route. That actually wasn’t Patterson’s fault.
-
Bell has been terrible. He hesitated on that route. That actually wasn’t Patterson’s fault.
He gets open with ease and he’s clearly a terrific athlete, but he kinda stinks at WR.
-
Bucks with some goofy play to end what should have been a scoring drive
-
My Syracuse to the CFP pick on life support
As is your underestimating of Maryland.
-
Ronnie Bell HAS to catch that. Starting to think this guy might be another Breaston. Great athlete, piss poor WR that can’t catch the damn ball.
That felt like a bad pass -- barely too much on it to catch Bell in stride, means that they could have had the reception easy if it had been weakarmed by 5 fewer yards. But yes, Bell is struggling with highlight catches. Not the worst thing, but not an all-star thing, either.
-
Hmm, that was obviously a TD. Dumb.
-
Michigan may struggle on rush D this year, but the performance of a 3 DE front against a triple option isn't the time for evaluation.
They struggled the last handful of games last year.
The stat I saw going into this week was that over their past 6 games they were #80 in the FBS in rushing yards allowed per game
-
Christian Turner whiffed on the blitz pick -up. Not exactly Patterson’s fault but MAN he has to stop turning it over. Charbonnet should’ve been in there. He’d have picked that blitz up.
Shouldn’t have even come to this. This is DUMB as hell. Metellus scored a freaking TD.
-
They struggled the last handful of games last year.
I don’t know. They struggled in every aspect of defense against Ohio State and they basically just quit against Florida.
-
They struggled the last handful of games last year.
You're ... doubling down? Gary and Bush sat out versus Florida, and Dwumfour was injured. After holding MTSU to 2.4 YPC, that shrinks the "last year until now" streak to the OSU game on an island. Granted, that was one very bad game.
-
Bearcats with a drive, but OSU blocks the field goal.
-
Maryland looks really good.
-
Now that was a bad mistake by Ronnie Bell. I'll fogive him for the hand-hitting non-catches (given the level of difficulty, I don't want to call them drops). But that STs gaffe drops his stock worse than the highlight catch misses.
Worse yet ... the team doesn't even need to play him. There are 3-4 better players at both WR and returner.
-

I gave the stat I saw, #80 over their previous six games going into this week.
-
Maryland looks really good.
Been missing a competent QB.
Defense is still a question to this point for me.
-
I gave the stat I saw, #80 over their previous six games going into this week.
You didn't give the stat until now. As for the stat, that's weighted enough to the OSU game and the Florida games that my response is the same as before.
-
Cincy player fell mid play convulsing.
-
WHY THE F%#! is Ben Van Smuren or whatever the hell his stupid name is EVER carrying the football?
-
Kind of scary - a safety for UC collapsed and seems to have had a seizure during a play
-
Charbonnet with an excellent blitz pick up on the completion to Nico the play before that scrub Van Smuren fumbled it.
-
WHY THE F%#! is Ben Van Smuren or whatever the hell his stupid name is EVER carrying the football?
I hear you. It's funny. After years of wanting more pizazz, all I want on offense is to run the bread and butter. Ruthlessly. Over and over. The bread and butter (Charbonnet up the middle, RPO for 10-15 and play action) is almost 100% of what we need this year.
-
Kind of scary - a safety for UC collapsed and seems to have had a seizure during a play
No! After a collision or independent of one?
-
Good looking drive for OSU there. Fields very comfortable throwing. 14-0
-

Whoa. Is he okay?
-
No! After a collision or independent of one?
I think independent of one. They weren't showing replays.
-
His mom said he has a history of seizures and he looked ok when they carted him off.
Whoa. Is he okay?
-
Not watching Maryland, but seems like Locksley is doing something right, huh?
-
Jesus. Stop them on 4th down and get a defensive hold. WTF.
-
Jesus. Stop them on 4th down and get a defensive hold. WTF.
I don't know about that call. That's how I want us playing defense.

Who makes these stupid ass personnel decisions? The kid is a LB’er or a FB. At best. Probably not even worth a scholarship. WHY THE F@&! do they insist on giving him RB carries? Harbaugh is an idiot when it comes to personnel.
-
Purdue and Vandy pixies at 7-7 after Purdue misses a 42 yard FG. Neither team looking particularly crisp. Vandy scored after a big broken coverage put them inside the 5, and Purdue had only put together one decent drive so far, and even then they've been marred by bad drops by the WR. Still no semblance of a running game.
-
No! After a collision or independent of one?
No contact.
-
Who makes these stupid ass personnel decisions? The kid is a LB’er or a FB. At best. Probably not even worth a scholarship. WHY THE F@&! do they insist on giving him RB carries? Harbaugh is an idiot when it comes to personnel many things.
Fixed.
-
Outside of the one busted coverage, Purdue looking better on defense though.
-
I think independent of one. They weren't showing replays.
If you rewind it you can see it. It was just as play started. Really scary. No contact. They carted him off. He was up and awake though not sure how aware. Very scary.
-
I don't feel like being a sober fan right now.
But ...
If I did ...
That version of me would remember that Michigan is averaging 6 yards/play and Army is getting 3.7. That ref failure was huge, to call back the Michigan TD by Metellus.
-
Dobbins - TD
-
Dobbins finally makes a big play. 21-0. Had been some grumbles about him but he's looking good today.
-
If this 1st down isn't a TD, I think you have to call time out.
-
This is a dumb team. They are coached by a dumb guy. Teams often take on the character of their head coach. Dumb and undisciplined and unhinged are the words that come to mind when describing this team and it’s coach.
-
Purdue marches down to score. 14-7.
Sindelar started very badly this game, missing throws. Starting to look in sync. He did make a throw to Bell in double coverage that wasn't dangerous if thrown perfectly and potentially an interception otherwise. Thankfully it was thrown perfectly.
-
Cinci QB Ridder out

Lol don’t hold back.
-
So Michigan has given up 4 of 5 touchdowns against it ...after a turnover. So maybe don't do that anymore.
-
Lol don’t hold back.
Ya thru the years we've had to coach MDot out of his shell good to see he's making progress - baby steps
-
Jim Harbaugh can go pound sand. I’m done with this clown.
-
Why is this team so sloppy and undisciplined?
-
Great throw and catch to freshman Garrett Wilson. 28-0
-
JESUS CHRIST THIS IS A STUPID TEAM.
-
Jesus Maryland
-
I'm not happy. This game has been all about Shea's TOs. And I'm not confident he can fix that in time.
-
Maryland destroying cuse. I’m blaming you @ela for tricking me into believing in the orange.
-
Also: eff. How did that Metellus TD get called back. It might be 14-7 Michigan right now. That removed points and flipped the field.
-
Maryland destroying cuse. I’m blaming you @ela for tricking me into believing in the orange.
Shhhh....
We suck. Our roster is full of 5th B1G players.
-
Bell has been terrible. He hesitated on that route. That actually wasn’t Patterson’s fault.
Mario,s'up don't be a stranger
-

This game is all about Harbaugh. Don’t know how you blame Shea for it. I certainly don’t.
-
Shhhh....
We suck. Our roster is full of 5th B1G players.
It's never been a question of talent with Maryland. Injuries (especially QB) and some questionable coaching have been the problem there. Things look to be fixed and if the "powers" in the East don't pay attention (sans OSU), they could lose to the Terps.
-
I think it's time for McCaffrey in Ann Arbor. Shae doesn't have it today.
Or.. maybe put them both on the field and give UW some tape to watch. :)
-
I really like Nate Stanley.
-
This game is all about Harbaugh. Don’t know how you blame Shea for it. I certainly don’t.
We have enough to be disappointed in both of them. Shea has something like 4+ turnovers on the season. We're 1.5 games in and I've already lost count.
-
Been missing a competent QB.
Defense is still a question to this point for me.
Holding that offense to 13 in a half is pretty impressive.
-
Shhhh....
We suck. Our roster is full of 5th B1G players.
Yeah but you got a saban assistant so you should be fine. :D
-
Holding that offense to 13 in a half is pretty impressive.
Their OL is patchwork and the QB isn't the same guy as last year, as you know.
-
I think it's time for McCaffrey in Ann Arbor. Shae doesn't have it today.
Or.. maybe put them both on the field and give UW some tape to watch. :)
Putting in McCaffery wouldn't be a bad decision. But I don't know enough about the lockerroom to be confident it's the right decision. DMc certainly has had more upside than Shea, but (a) I'm not sure he's surpassed him yet and (b) either way there could be a good argument here for being calm and steadfast. Switching is a season outlook kind of thing. A fulcrum.
-
Yeah but you got a saban assistant so you should be fine. :D
Yeah, but the guy at Michigan called the plays....
-
In the ongoing was Locksley or Gattis actually coaching Bama's offense debate, looks like Locksley.
-

Who has the hardware?
-
Who makes these stupid ass personnel decisions? The kid is a LB’er or a FB. At best. Probably not even worth a scholarship. WHY THE F@&! do they insist on giving him RB carries? Harbaugh is an idiot when it comes to personnel.
He was going to Iowa to play LB until Michigan swooped in late.
-
Yeah, but the guy at Michigan called the plays....
I don't think he ever claimed that. Not that Michigan can't afford more humility. I figured Locksley would be more like his New Mexico self with sub-Alabama players. That's looking like a very bad guess.
-

Mdot doesn’t want to hear it but shea never had it. Sec fans tried to tell him he wasn’t a great qb when he transferred. He’s not bad but he’s not gonna turn you into a great team either.
-
I really like Nate Stanley.
Still missing wide open guys down field and still panicking under pressure, but overall pretty good.
-

He has a nice deep ball (high success rate nationally) and makes good RPO reads. But his decision making against zone is quite bad. If a defense drops 7, sparks come out of his ears.
-
I don't think he ever claimed that. Not that Michigan can't afford more humility. I figured Locksley would be more like his New Mexico self with sub-Alabama players. That's looking like a very bad guess.
Honestly I though locks might have been a product of his players more so than the other way around. based on his other stops and results.
Looks like I was wrong. Hope he continues to do well.
-

You must not be privy to the whole Gattis / Locksley drama this summer.
-
After reading a post on another board "I think the WVU QB just got sacked by the entire front 7" I don't think I have to pay attn to that game anymore
-
I really like Nate Stanley.
So did Paul Chryst (the prior coach never offered, even though Nate was a Badger fan and a good QB from in-state).
When he got hired in Madison, Chryst tried to flip him, but couldn't. So, he ended up with Hornibrook. Ah well.
-
I don't dislike the offense, per se. 5 drives, 3 turnovers. That's the problem. Otherwise, the YPP is something like 6.5. Running lanes are there for Charbonnet. Guys are consistently open downfield. Just need to stop with the mistakes. Maybe that's asking a lot. 2nd half starting soon.
-
`There was a play a while back on a MD TD where a Cubes DB had McFarland dead to rights and missed him by about 3 yards.
Look out for this offense. It doesn't look like you could key on their running game anymore. They have a speed everywhere and a QB good enough to get the ball to them.
-
Purdue 14-10 at half. Gave up a hail mary to end the half but it was caught on the 3,not in the end zone.
Purdue starts with the ball in the 3rd.
-
Mizz hammering wvu. Chalk up another miss by me.
-
That's an illegal block?
-
Swapping qbs in same series now. Has it ever worked?
-
Swapping qbs in same series now. Has it ever worked?
I sure as hell hope there was an equipment issue to explain it.
-
I sure as hell hope there was an equipment issue to explain it.
They’re probably just reading the message boards.
-
Buckeyes have had some highlight sacks today
-
That's how they get you. You overcommit and then ...
-
Watching Justin Fields slide is like watching a war horse try and curtsy
-
I think Michigan finally needs to play a roster DT. This all-DE line is not working. It seemed through the week that Dwumfour and Jeter would be ready. If true, then you have to play them now. Right?
-
That's how they get you. You overcommit and then ...
Army setting up the naked bootleg. It’s wide open last few plays.
-
Efficient passing day for Army
-
Uab up big on Akron. Akron’s field is striped. Very strange looking. Has it always been that way?
-
Purdue 21-10.
-
Efficient passing day for Army
Spoke to soon
-
Efficient passing day for Army
You were saying....
-
Army setting up the naked bootleg. It’s wide open last few plays.
That was the bootleg but mich read it and defended it really well.
-
That was mostly mistakes by Army. The false start was the biggest one (took is off the 1YL). Then decided to pass in a compressed area of the field
-
Feels like a game changer
-
I spoke too early on that "Patterson always makes the right read" thing.
-
Bad red zone interception by Sindelar. Screen pass that wasn't there and tossed it straight to the DL.
-
Feels like a game changer
I'm still not over the Metellus TD reversal. Not quite a fair trade with the universe, but I'll take it.
-
I like the result for Bell, but he wasn't the right guy to pass the ball. Black and McKeon were more open. Patterson really struggles to interpret zone defense.
-
I like the result for Bell, but he wasn't the right guy to pass the ball. Black and McKeon were more open. Patterson really struggles to interpret zone defense.
Thought Patterson was good that drive. UM not getting much push up front so he and wr had to make those plays that drive. Good drive but mich needs to take back control of the lines to feel comfortable.
-
That was by far the OL's worst drive today. I can't explain how they accomplished the day's longest drive anyway.
-
Bucks go up 35-0 and feels like backups about to go in as I head for soccer. Pretty encouraging game on all fronts.
-
That cincy player that collapsed is a former bama player kyriq McDonald. He also collapsed during the bama/uga title game on sideline. Kids has some Medical issues and hope all the best for him. Hate it but he probably needs to give up the game and make sure he stays healthy.
-
Purdue keeps getting offensive drives kept alive by Vandy penalties. This one by targeting, and the next play is Hopkins' 2nd TD reception.
-
I winced seeing 5 guys rushing the QB there. You don't do that versus Army.
-
They’re probably just reading the message boards.
Might be a better strategy then what he has. Heh.
-
Wow, break out the Terps!
Also, Army: don't pass. Ever.
-
MDot.. where is he? Gonna come back later with a hangover, or what?
-
MDot.. where is he? Gonna come back later with a hangover, or what?
I’m watching. I was really team Shea but I don’t know anymore. Think it might be time to give McCaffrey a shot at starting.
-
I'll say it again: There are 3+ returners who are better than Ronnie Bell and 3+ who are better than him at WR, too. Do the coaches know they can afford to sit him for a few games?
-
Huge 4th down and 1 stop by the Boilers in the red zone.
-
I’m watching. I was really team Shea but I don’t know anymore. Think it might be time to give McCaffrey a shot at starting.
Is anyone with Mdot? Someone check his pulse or see if he’s running fever.

Bell is all athlete zero football player.
-

Shea needs an absolute clean pocket with all day to throw and his first read wide open to be effective. Every time things break down or his first read isn’t there- the kids brain turns into a hot potato.
-
What the hell was that 4th down playcall? Seriously.
-
Why not take the pints there?
Got a feeling army eats clock and gets a winning score to mill game away. Dumb 4th down try there.
-
uh no FG there?
-
Why not take the pints there?
Got a feeling army eats clock and gets a winning score to mill game away. Dumb 4th down try there.
Agree. Take the points. Or at the very least have a better play call then that.
-
Purdue 3 and out giving Vandy good field position. Vandy drives and scores, but fails the 2pt conversion. Purdue 28-16 early 4th.
-
Doesn’t matter if they pull out the win. The team that I’ve seen the last two weeks will get clobbered in Wisconsin. Sloppy, undisciplined, stupid play, turnovers, and poor coaching IN Camp Randall? That’s a recipe for disaster.
-
Why not take the pints there?
Purdue with only a 2 TD lead in the 4th. I could take some pints right now lol.
-
What the hell was that 4th down playcall? Seriously.
Terrible decision there. WTF are they thinking? Or are they not thinking?
-

At least rft's head is in the right spot.
-
Army: analytics
Michigan: analgesics

I could use a few pints of adult beverages right now
-
In case anyone didn't know, I'm still not over that Metellus TD reversal. And yes, I'm embarrassed it matters.
-
Terrible decision there. WTF are they thinking? Or are they not thinking?
Does Jim even think? He seems like he just reacts. John is the smart one in that family.
-
At least rft's head is in the right spot.
I’m a couple pints in already. Gotta a tough game this afternoon.
-
Army: analytics
Michigan: analgesics
Lol maybe that’s why they stayed away from the pints.
-
A WR screen is illegal, but an official screen is ok, right? #AskingForAFriend
Purdue 35-16.
-
I could use a few pints of adult beverages right now
Octoberfest is back in season. Go grab a few dozen and join me.
-
A WR screen is illegal, but an official screen is ok, right? #AskingForAFriend
Purdue 35-16.
Vandy answers. Poor tackling.
-
I hope McLintoch(sp?) is ok.
Separately: with this commercial break, we shouldn't be surprised if we come back to a targeting call.
-
Vandy answers. Poor tackling.
One play...
2pt.35-24 now.
-
Very good targeting call there. It was clear.
-
Very good targeting call there. It was clear.
I don’t like it.

OSU is just a machine. Lose a legendary coach? Get another one. Lose another one? Get another one. I think Day is all that.
-
I don’t like it.
You don't like replay? Or that call? It was clear.
-
Actually, BS targeting there. The hit to UM's hip altered the trajectory of his head, which caused the Army guy's helmet to hit the UM's helmet a split-second later. The Army guy wasn't even looking directly at the UM guy.
If that's a genuine, correctly-called penalty, then this isn't football anymore. I don't like making dramatic statements like that, but honestly....the defender was mid-tackle motion when the ball-carrier's whole body trajectory changed.
-
OSU is just a machine. Lose a legendary coach? Get another one. Lose another one? Get another one. I think Day is all that.
They're no doubt the cream of the crop in conference. But it would be hard to mess up the roster that was handed down. Perhaps 50% of coaches could "coast" at this level of success we're seeing so far. We probably won't know who Day is even by the end of the season let alone already.
-
Gotta protect the head. The Army player led with his. Can't do that anymore.
-
OSU is just a machine. Lose a legendary coach? Get another one. Lose another one? Get another one. I think Day is all that.
It's game 2, buddy.
Tommy Bowden began his career at Auburn going 20-0.
They're playing Cincinnati.
-
OSU is just a machine. Lose a legendary coach? Get another one. Lose another one? Get another one. I think Day is all that.
Tough to argue that. It’s been a remarkable run.
-
You don't like replay? Or that call? It was clear.
The call. I changed channel so I can’t rewind but how the hell is the defender supposed to avoid that?
-
Damn. I wanted an arc keeper on 3rd. Dylan shouldn't have handed off
-
Gotta protect the head. The Army player led with his. Can't do that anymore.
You can "lead with your head" while intending initiating contact with your shoulder, which is what I believe he was doing. I believe this because he wasn't even facing the ball-carrier...he knew he was basically cleaning up the play as the secondary hit.
-
Army has to score before the bell if they want to win. I don't think they can do it in OT.
-
UM can't get 2 yards on Army in 2 plays....they're earning this outcome (both teams, in different ways).
-
They're no doubt the cream of the crop in conference. But it would be hard to mess up the roster that was handed down. Perhaps 50% of coaches could "coast" at this level of success we're seeing so far. We probably won't know who Day is even by the end of the season let alone already.
Recruiting has not slowed down.
-
The call. I changed channel so I can’t rewind but how the hell is the defender supposed to avoid that?
He can't. Plain and simple.
-
It's game 2, buddy.
Tommy Bowden began his career at Auburn going 20-0.
They're playing Cincinnati.
Day was 3-0 last year when Urbs was suspended.
-
Recruiting has not slowed down.
We can't know that for a couple of years down the road.
-
Army has to score before the bell if they want to win. I don't think they can do it in OT.
Agree
-
Recruiting has not slowed down.
I'm talking about the development years and culture that was handed down.
-
Day was 3-0 last year when Urbs was suspended.
And my dad used to let me help steer the car when he had to let go of it while driving.....doesn't mean I could drive well as a 10-year old.
-
CMU made some stupid comments. Oh boy...
https://twitter.com/chris_guwap/status/1170113284906913792?s=21
-
How’s army fg kicker? As good as bama?
-
Army going for it there is ballsy. Army passing, even in this situation is stupid. Might as well buy a lottery ticket while they're at it.
-
I'd like to be petty and say once more that the score would more likely be 21-7 than 21-14 if the Metellus TD weren't reversed. Either way, not 14-14.
-

Meh. If nothing else it reminds mich they will try it and opens running lanes up some. I don’t mind it.
-
That Moore guy is good.
-
42-24
-
BTW if a team has benefited from bad officiating, it has clearly been Purdue today. But the officiating has been a clown show.
-
Maybe UM should petition the AP voters and ask them to not rank them in the top 10 before October?
-
How’s army fg kicker? As good as bama?
Lol first fg attempt in college career. Poor kid
-
That Moore guy is good.
Reminds me so much of Diggs.
-
I'd like to be petty and say once more that the score would more likely be 21-7 than 21-14 if the Metellus TD weren't reversed. Either way, not 14-14.
My god. Overtime.
-
Meh. If nothing else it reminds mich they will try it and opens running lanes up some. I don’t mind it.
That's pretty conventional thinking...but the Army passing game is like a middle school threat to UM's defense...to anybody's defense. It's a waste of a play.
-
Close but no cigar
-
BTW if a team has benefited from bad officiating, it has clearly been Purdue today. But the officiating has been a clown show.
500+ passing yards means Purdue did something right.
-
I don't know why these kickers can't hit 50 yarders. I made a 40-yarder at the CF HOF in Atlanta like 5 years ago without having kicked a ball in many years. C'mon, man.
-
Yeah, Army beefed it.
No way the Wolverines can barf up this game in OT.
-
That's pretty conventional thinking...but the Army passing game is like a middle school threat to UM's defense...to anybody's defense. It's a waste of a play.
I didn’t say it was a major threat just that they can’t ignore it.
-
I don't know why these kickers can't hit 50 yarders. I made a 40-yarder at the CF HOF in Atlanta like 5 years ago without having kicked a ball in many years. C'mon, man.
Were there 110K people rooting against you?
-
500+ passing yards means Purdue did something right.
O/U on Purdue rushing yards next week vs TCU?
I think -25
-
Yeah, Army beefed it.
No way the Wolverines can barf up this game in OT.
One can hope. Sorry mich fans.
-
I didn’t say it was a major threat just that they can’t ignore it.
They can play a vanilla man or cover 3 and basically ignore it, yeah.
-
Were there 110K people rooting against you?
Well that's where being a kicker who is young and practices everyday comes in, no?
There was about 20 people there...I was the first one to try. They had it lined up for everyone to kick and extra point, and I asked if we could move it back. They obliged.
-
I imagine the 4tth down predictor works differently in OT v regulation.
-
How do you line up that far offside?
-
I imagine the 4tth down predictor works differently in OT v regulation.
I wonder if there's enough data to have an OT predictor....
-
Not sure why UM has the advantage in OT. Ever been on defense vs. an option team after 60 minutes and been told the game isn't over yet?
-
Kicker drills the XP.
-
Not sure why UM has the advantage in OT. Ever been on defense vs. an option team after 60 minutes and been told the game isn't over yet?
Generally I believe the longer a game last the more likely talent takes over.
-
Man, man, man, if only that Metellus TD reversal had been reviewable.
-
Generally I believe the longer a game last the more likely talent takes over.
Another traditional line of thinking...but if the talent discrepancy hasn't netted a positive result so far....
-
Was a late hit
-
Michigan damn near missed the XP.
-
Another traditional line of thinking...but if the talent discrepancy hasn't netted a positive result so far....
It’s traditional because it has history to back it up. It usually doesn’t even make it to ot. How many times to weaker teams jump out and take advantage of the better team making mistakes and not being prepared for the game? But way more often than not the better team comes around and wins. Sometimes it takes ot. Sometimes they don’t.
-
Maybe this Michigan game will still be on when I get home
-
Army looks so small compared to Michigan.
-
Bad bad bad
-
Don Brown time. He knows how to stop this.
-
Purdue wins!
Sindelar went into the tent after Purdue's final offensive snap. It was a QB draw. Backup was warming up if needed.
We'll see as that develops next week...
-
That was big by Aidan Hutchinson. I'm so relieved they stopped playing Ben Mason.
-
Dear Dwumfour and Jeter:
Please get healthy the next two weeks. We need you to at least take sooooome snaps v UW.
Being out two key DTs and our best OT has been brutal so far this year
-
Army. Pass. Loss.
Told ya so
-
Run the ball, kick the manageable FG. Keep playing.
-
That was all play-call, nothing to do with a talent discrepancy.
-
Run the ball, kick the manageable FG. Keep playing.
How do you define manageable FG for a TrFr with an 0/1 history? Probably based on practice. Maybe the coach knew that they needed a first down.
-
As in shorter than 50 yards, lol.
-
That was all play-call, nothing to do with a talent discrepancy.
Nah talent had a lot to do with that. Pass play might have been a bad call (I agree btw) but army doesn’t have good pass blockers and Mich talent took advantage. Talent had a ton of influence on that series.
-
As in shorter than 50 yards, lol.
It might need to be shorter than 30 yards. If so, praying for a 1st down above all else was the right call. He seemed like a smart coach. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
-
Well OT against Army worked out for Oklahoma last year
-
Clemson and aTm in a good one so far early in 1st.
-
Illinois bails out UConn with a forearm shiver to the qb's head.

Wisconsin isn't on TV in Indiana. (?)

So far it seems to me that the Chips' players and head coach should have kept their yappers shut. The Badgers are fired up.
-
What ya drinkin'?
Powerade Zero, for now. But I'm REALLY good at catching up.

Check your BTN extra channels up the dial.
Thanks. The guide lists it as Indiana-EIU. I tried it; it's UW-CMU

1 offensive play 2 Tds. Punt return td Except it got called back. So just 1 for 1.

College football needs to call these games a "jamboree" and just play a half. Double the stats, move on.

I can't drink that much. About to hand the 12 yo a razor sharp 8" chefs knife and make him chop for salsa... Gotta be ready for anything lol...

aTm on the board first with a fg.
-
Just got into the hotel. Daughter had a softball tournament. Missed the WVU debacle, Thank God. They are bad, really bad.
Ohio St score didn’t shock me. I’d thought they would roll. Michigan didn’t all that much either (well, maybe a little). The Maryland score was eye opening. 63? Shew, boy. Are the Terps for real?
-
23-0. Time to start looking at more games.
-
Kent St avoided a winless season with an OT W vs Kennesaw State. Whoever that is.
-
Glad to see Nebraska go right for the throat on offense. Martinez has perfect command of the offense. 95 yds to take a 14-0 lead. Lots of Huskers fans cheering in Boulder. This is the offense Frost dominated with at UCF.
-
Girls really tentative at vball today, had 2 kids out w injuries. Lost two tough sets. 25-23. Such a riddle after lively practices. One awesome thing our newest player w a prostetic leg has really been awesome. She never played before. Such a joy to see this.
-
Huskers looking strong
-
They are getting good pressure up front. Not sure OL is doing any better. Throws have been sharp so far.
-
Just looked back to Madison. 44-0, so far. Maybe even more this half yet.
I wonder what it was that the Chips' HC thought that UW didn't know what it had coming.
-
For those of us who didn't read clippings of cmu v uw, no offense that's everyone, what was uttered? Is this Lou Holt level spin?
-
They are getting good pressure up front. Not sure OL is doing any better. Throws have been sharp so far.
OLine the obvious weak link
luckily Frost can work around that

To be fair, the CMU comments weren't anything. They should be positive and optimistic about themselves. They should play to win. I don't see any trash-talk at all there. UK had more to complain about than Wisconsin does now.
-
Watching games on real grass is such a rare treat. Flipping back and forth between Clemson and Boulder is just so visually pleasing.
-

Maybe they should just STFU and not poke a sleeping bear? Especially the head coach?

What, a steaming pile of poo?

Go home Huskers/Buffs you're drunk

Rather have OU/UNL every year.

Colorado-Nebraska very interesting all of a sudden.

Nice grab

Colorado’s kicker is 32 years old? Holy crap.

F Ralphie
-
Gutsy call and big play for Nebraska
-
Pretty good game.
-
Damn. Colorado-Nebraska is a beauty.
-
Un - fookin' - believable
-
Fearless is guzzling Sharkwater after that pick
-
The Colorado DB just did something you rarely see in the college game. He looked back for the ball. He trusted he was in good position and turned his head. So often you see kids panic and just tackle the receiver without ever looking back. Great coverage and textbook DB play.
-
Damn. Colorado-Nebraska is a beauty.
Looking a little Big Twelvie now.
Take away the black shirts. Not deserved.

His son is a FR at CU.....j/k

I think older people prefer UNL-OU, but for us 40 and under, UNL-CU was the big game. It's super cool to see them playing again.
-
Maybe they should just STFU and not poke a sleeping bear? Especially the head coach?
"They don't know what they have coming."
What, a steaming pile of poo?
What are they supposed to say? Yeah, we're gonna lose. My mom is scared for my safety. Hopefully, we'll just score.
NOPE.
Anyway...Total Yards
599 Wisconsin
58 CMU
-
I gotta say given Nebraska’s shaky kicking situation I didn’t love the 2nd and long sweep call.
-
Man that's a tough loss
-
What you look for in a kicker:
chubby? Check.
lefty? Check.
number in the 90s? Check.
hooks it like a 1st-time golfer? YAHTZEE!
ah, damn, it's the punter. Oh well. I'm still funny.

-
OK, Nebraska.
Enough is enough.
Coughing up 31 points in the 2nd half and 24 in the 4th, to a mediocre team, is not blackshirt-worthy.
Nor is it Big Ten worthy.
Your Big Ten card is hereby revoked. Back to the Big 12, you go, and take Rutger with ya.
WVU needs a travel partner.
Regards,
Big Jim
(Told y'all I was good at catching up. Tito's is good for this.)

Hmm....UT-Martin kind of looks like Auburn if you squint. So yeah, we're playing Auburn. ESPN U!

Well, i nailed the 3 team parlay.

State Penn better be mindful of the Bulls. That is a sneaky-good team and they have an excellent coach.

how does Jim McElwain keep getting head coaching jobs? I don't get it.

This will be his last. His big mouth and lack of success will come back to bite him.
-
MSU under Dantonio might be the best in the Big Ten at scripting the first drive of a game. Whether it's a good offensive season or bad, great game or bad, that first drive on O seems to consistently stand out in terms of efficiency.
-
This will be his last. His big mouth and lack of success will come back to bite him.

Oh man, those uniforms. I might have to just watch Texas and Penn State.

I don't know. To me Bama assistant = Pats assistant. You ain't getting Saban when you hire the Bama assistant, just like you ain't getting Belichik when you hire the Pats assistant. Never saw anything special about the shark humper.
-
Tough loss for the Huskers--missing a short FG in OT.
They were up 17-0 at halftime. I went out and mowed my front yard, came back in, and Colorado had tied it up 24-24.
-

Yep. Worse than I thought too.

Man Texas
-
I never understood why Nebraska was getting all kinds of love from the writers.
Meanwhile, in Austin, Texas has had 4th and goal inside the 3 TWICE and not converted either of them. They're gonna want that back.

LSU with 2 goal line stands in first qtr.

All hat and no cattle Texas

Just the normal JW now. No need to get into the good stuff at this point.
-
Buffalo Defense playing like Khalil Mack is still there.Penn State seems to have lost some of last weeks luster
-
Texas finally punches one in. 7-3

And LSU answers. Looks like that Texas TD broke the ice and it's a last-team-with-ball shootout.

Buffalo takes the lead

Going for my new favorite Skrewball Whiskey. If you had asked me a month ago and told me I would fall in love with a Peanut butter flavored whiskey, I would say you were crazy, but it is absolutely fantastic.

Buffalo gonna give PSU all they want

Buffalo is NOT afraid to hit.
Pad popping is live.

They're also not afraid to make dumb mistakes. Their first three series of 2H all ended with them (interception, a shanked punt, and a back shoulder fade).
21 13 PSU

Also, an enterprising restaurateur opened a Jet's Pizza store less than 3 miles from my house. This could be dangerous.

Thank god I turned it to the BYU-Tennessee game.....UT has the game won, but inevitably gives up a 64-yard pass with 5 seconds left.....this is AMAZING
-
Lol Vols
-
The other UT is embroiled in a damn good game in Austin, just drew within 23 21 near the end of 3Q.
I don't think I'm going to make it to the end of 1Q of the Gopher game in Fresno.
-
Lee miles hopes you don't Google coastal Carolina football.

TOUCHDOWN MORMONS!
-
Wow, FSU gave up 44 pts to LA-Monroe.....maybe they're the reason we're suddenly playing other teams with a pulse OOC....
-
Tennessee is the new Vandy. Annnnnd they're still playing Rocky Top after that? ffs
-
wonder if Aubrey Solomon is second guessing his decision to transfer to Tennessee. Lol.
Have to think Eric Gray and Quavaris Crouch have to be thinking why did I sign with Tennessee for this?
-
Wow, FSU gave up 44 pts to LA-Monroe.....maybe they're the reason we're suddenly playing other teams with a pulse OOC....
Not sure Willie Taggart survives the year.

On a side note, that's where Kasim Hill ended up.

Gophers took the ball first and went right down the field and scored.

A. Wow Tennessee
B. My god CMU is bad

Glad I get to watch the last 4 minutes of Texas-LSU because MSU-WMU warranted being a night game. :96:
-
Burrow. Impressive
-
Why would you all out blitz on a 3rd and 17? I don’t know. To me you drop 8. Play coverage.
-
Burrow. Impressive
He looks like a completely different player. It’s insane. Never thought he had this in him.
-
Guy has been stone cold tonight.
-
Man, imagine some of those late Miles teams with this offense?
Also I'll eat crow on thinking MSU kept the wrong co-DC when they paid Tressell and let Barnett go to FSU
-
Also, a missed opportunity to reference the way the Fickell squirted in the thread name
-
Seems like I was way off on UNC, but yikes, just how bad is Miami?

Quite bad.
Does that say anything about Florida?

If the transitive property doesn't work at the end of the year, why would it now? btw, I doubt UNC is anything special, but they have wins over 2 P5 programs (USCe & Miami). How many others can say that?

Cal at wash still hasn't started.

I would guess that no others can say that.
And, yeah, the transitive property doesn't necessarily work in CFB. But games vs. other teams are evidence. If UNC isn't anything special, then Miami is less than that.
Who's the best CFB team in Florida right now, Florida or UCF? It's sure not Miami or FSU.
-
If UNC isn't anything special, then Miami is less than that.
Yeah, we can't say that with any certainty.
When you're guaranteed a sample size of 12 (games, each), making big, sweeping statements after 2 games isn't a recipe for accuracy. Ya know?
-
Sure, big sweeping statements right now lack one particular thing--sufficient evidence.
But the major CFB websites will be out with their CFB power rankings tomorrow or Monday, and right here there will be the Big Ten power rankings.
-
Cal v UW will start up at 1030 pdt.
-
Oh, I wanted to give a huge shout out to Syracuse for helping my case against the preseason top 25, and how utterly F'ing ridiculous it is to have one.
Not only did they predict the Terps would win today at home, they did it while not giving any votes or consideration to the Terrapins after their win last week against Howard.
Amazing how a top 25 team is expected to lose against the team not receiving any votes at all.
I guess it's there just for morons to believe team A "should beat" team B.
-

Maryland has been looking great so far early on this season. Very impressive.
And despite the Gophers repeatedly trying to give away the game to Fresno State....Chris Autman-Bell managed to make a highlight catch on fourth down to send the game to OT.
-
Second OT.....the Gophers can only muster a FG. And like last years game in Minneapolis where Antoine Winfield Jr. seals the win against the Bulldogs with a pick in the end zone as regulation is running out.....he steps in front of what looked to be a wide open receiver in the end zone with another pick to seal the win.....38-35.
That was an absolutely wild game.
-
Oh, I wanted to give a huge shout out to Syracuse for helping my case against the preseason top 25, and how utterly F'ing ridiculous it is to have one.
It’s why if I was a pollster I’d be voting Wisconsin #1. Nobody has utterly dominated their first two opponents the way the Badgers have.

Damn Dad,I heard there was some tussling going on
-
I was absolutely shocked out of what I saw out of Joe Burrows. Never in a million years thought he had this in him. He looks like a legitimate NFL draft pick at QB. Never thought I’d say that. That’s a major testament to his commitment to developing his skills as a QB and at his new offensive coaches.
He looks like the best QB LSU has maybe ever had. Jamarcus Russell had the size and the incredible arm- but even he never looked that good in terms of decision making and accuracy.
Burrows was throwing darts and was throwing them incredibly accurately and he was throwing his guys open and throwing into tight windows and throwing the ball where it should be before his receivers were ever out of their breaks. It was SO impressive. Major props to Burrows. LSU gets QB play like that all season they just might win the SEC.
-
In 2016 he was throwing darts but Urbz was too busy kissing his JT poster he went 22-28 in reserve. Before I hear about garbage time much of what JT compiled was just that. There were some very spirited exchanges on the Buckeye Boards.JB was leading recievers in stride - it was obvious. With JT receivers had to stop, lean forward or reach back.Beginning of 2017 season he broke his thumb then Haskins moved up and filled in.
-
Joe's father Jim, former player and coach at UNL. Known as Jimmy back then
probably doesn't like the Horns
Joe exceeded my expectations, especially running a new offense
many Huskers thought Frost should go after Joe as a transfer, I wasn't so sure. Looking good now.
I thought Sam would be the QB to get it done in this game, wrong
-
Sam did his part. He was phenomenal. He is an EXCELLENT QB and player. Some poor coaching decisions, receiver drops, sloppy OL play, and piss poor defensive tackling did the Horns in. Sam did everything and then some to win that game. He was legit.
-
How would we rate the QB's this season who are transfers?
I'd go with Fields at the top, so far.
-

Who are the transfers? What’s the list? Fields has looked impressive, but he’s played no one.
Does Burrows still count as a transfer? Cause I’d put him at #1 by a long shot if he does.

I will agree the loss is NOT on Sam.
Horn's Big 12 defense was the cause
LSU's defense didn't look great either

I guess I'd have to do the research to find out who all the transfers are. Burrows still counts. So does Patterson.
There are many more out there.

that guy playing for the Sooners
At this point I feel like anyone could look great playing QB for Lincoln Riley and that system lol.
-
I will agree the loss is NOT on Sam.
Horn's Big 12 defense was the cause
LSU's SEC defense didn't look great either
FIFY.
I thought the key play in the game was in the 4th quarter when LSU--up by 5, I think--had 3rd and 17 from its own 39. Many defenses in that situation would play prevent. Texas blitzed and Burrow hit a wide open receiver down the left sideline who went on the score. That made the gap 2 scores, and Texas never had the ball with a 1-score deficit after that.
Neither defense had much success getting stops over the last 20 minutes of the game.

If you had seen Austin Kendall--Kyler Murray's backup last year--play in it, you might not think that.

Agree 100%. I posted as such in this thread when it happened. DUMB play call by Texas DC/HC. Especially when Burrows was carving them up all game long vs man coverage. All you need is to prevent a 1st down there to get them to 4th down so they’d have to punt. Drop 7 or 8 and keep everything in front of you. Play zone and make Burrows make an unreal throw into tight windows to pick up 18+ for the 1st down.
The RB dropping a TD on 4th and goal from the 2 that hit him right in the hands boned Texas pretty hard too. Sam threw it right to him and he drops it wide open in the end zone. Texas got stopped twice on 4th and goals. Herman should’ve just taken the points both time and he’d have 6 and the game would’ve been a 1 point game.

He good.
Still upset that Locks couldn't close that deal.

Honestly, it checks off all the boxes:

Oh, I wanted to give a huge shout out to Syracuse for helping my case against the preseason top 25, and how utterly F'ing ridiculous it is to have one.
Not only did they predict the Terps would win today at home, they did it while not giving any votes or consideration to the Terrapins after their win last week against Howard.
Amazing how a top 25 team is expected to lose against the team not receiving any votes at all.
I guess it's there just for morons to believe team A "should beat" team B.
If polls were predictors at all, especially accurate predictors, college football would be no fun at all.
If you want to make a case against the preseason Top-25, the way to do it that does not encourage more Top-25s is easy. Do not care if you got votes after scoring 79 against a MEAC team. Do not care who is in the mix in the low 20s. Once you don't care about this silly things, then having one doesn't matter at all.
-
Yeah, we can't say that with any certainty.
When you're guaranteed a sample size of 12 (games, each), making big, sweeping statements after 2 games isn't a recipe for accuracy. Ya know?
UNC is interesting for a few reasons. At the very least, they're not as bad as they could've been. Which is to say, they could've been 2-3 win bad, and they probably won't be that barring the sky falling on them.
Coming into the year, there was a tenuous case they could be good. They're 28th in star talent. While I don't trust Mack, Longo is an excellent OC and Bateman has a good rep at DC, even if it's slightly overblown. So you could align it, good coordinators take good talent and a top-100 recruit delivers as a freshman QB, you could have a good team with a solid record against a bad ACC slate.
Basically, the path to 8 wins isn't unpossible.

Doesn't matter one iota. If you're "ranked", you shouldn't be underdogs to an unranked team who's on no one's radar.
Rankings shouldn't come out until week 4, at least, with last year's consideration as an indicator.
Playoff rankings do little to help, when Clemson can be ranked #1, and run through a weak ACC unscathed to the championship.
Maryland just dismantled the ACC's #2 team. Clemson, once again, has a clear path, and can then recruit pitch how easy it is to make it to the playoffs.

rankings can be different than power index
rankings, especially the playoff committee poll shouldn't come out until the 9th or 10th week

The ACC really sucks. Probably the weakest of the P5 - PAC included.

They were last year too.
Helps Clemson a lot when they play high school teams all the way up to the playoffs. They can always keep their bodies fresh.
-
And it used to be FSU. Only the name changed. Same old crap.
-
Four 1-1 teams in the Top 25 this week.
Garbage.

The problem is one of perception and how, in the CoFoPO era as much as or more than with the BCS, fans are usually judging conferences for their tippy tops and not their depth.

I saw that UCLA lost to a G5 team again, so let's look at it:
12-3
5-9
3-11
These are the records of the top 3 HC hires from last year.

Four 1-1 teams in the Top 25 this week.
Garbage.
3 SEC SEC SEC teams in the top 4, and 6 in the top 10.
-
Don't like it but Bama/Gawja in because of recent history and LSU in because of an impressive road win against a helmet. The rest, meh

So no credit given to wins over Oregon or Miami. Cool.
-
Also based on recent history - cooler

My guys got no credit for beating Miami 35-3 in the bowl game last year, so why should Florida get credit for squeaking by Miami this year?
Miami sucks.

Miami sucks.
I mean, UW was preseason top-20. that might not happen without 35-3.
Per S&P, they finished with 8 of top 12 last year (those numbers really liked Missouri), and frankly, there’s not been all that much proving done just yet.
-
It's the helmet. Heh.

let's see where the Ducks and Canes finish
neither are impressive so far

Miami sucks.
Maybe don't get blown out by Minnesota?
I was talking about 2019. Miami may very well suck. Who is ranked behind Florida (one of the 'meh' top 10 teams from the SEC) with a better win? Let's see how far down the rankings you have to go...
Rk - Tm...Opponents
10 - UM...MTSU, Army (OT)
11 - Utah...BYU, NIU
12 - Texas...LA Tech
Where are the better wins?
13 - Penn St...Idaho, Buffalo
14 - Wisconsin...USF, CMU
Buncha directional schools.
15 - Oregon...Nevada
16 - A&M...Texas St.
17 - UCF...FAMU, FAU
18 - MSU...Tulsa, WMU
I'm tired of looking now. Where are the better resumes? If Miami sucks, how do you label this list of opponents/victories?!?
-
let's see where the Ducks and Canes finish

Very fair. But see above....what better wins are out there to replace Auburn and Florida in the top 10?!?
