It's cold in Columbus - around 34 degrees right now. There is even a bit of snow in the forecast right now, but I haven't seen any. A good Ohio change from the 68 degrees is was a couple days ago. Should be a good day to let something simmer all day. I have a taste for green chili, but that might be hard to source. The grocery store is wacky these days, with things marked way up or way down - I just buy whatever they have. Maybe scope out some pork belly, which both can cook a long time and smell good, and turn into great post game sammiches.

Did see a few flakes of snow out there. Made the dogs bark to come back in the house.
-
It's 46°F here and sunny, the leaves are about max color today here. I'm headed upstairs for a bit more coffee.
-
Taking FIL to a brewpub for lunch down in Dana Point. Being close to the water should help beat the heat today; high of 88.
Not chili weather lol. For dinner we've got a beautiful piece of ahi tuna and we're gonna do poke bowls.
-
Mornin' boys, hopefully Purdue's Carraige will turn into Purdont's pumpkin as mid nite approaches
-
27 and cloudy, a little snow yet on the ground in grassy areas. Football weather!
Headed to the hardware, grocery, and can recycling before grabbing a stool at the pub this morning for the 11am games
$2.50 bloody marys with a beer back
will be back in the small town pub a few blocks from the house by 2:30 kick for the Hawk/Goopher game - bringing in pizza there
life is good
Huskers won't be losing a single digit game today!

Huskers won't be losing a single digit game today!
You sure? - Idle hands and all that

Didn't like the price tag on the big hunks of meat, especially compared to the brats and ground chuck, which were three bucks a pound. Probably make burgers tonight. I've settled into a burger routine, which is smashing and searing the burger on a hot pan, then holding it together with couple slices of provolone. Add some pickle slices, some mayo or fry sauce, and a toasted bun. Perfect.
-
Also the ole Christmas Ales are out. Doesn't feel like Christmas yet, but a spiced beer on a cold day is pretty good too.
-
Still swilling my Great Lakes Brewing Edmund Fitzgerald's,abundantly robust Porter .Beer will be staying in the garage for the forseeable future 😎

I haven't had a dark beer in ages - Murphy's is my favorite, makes me think of Ireland.
-
One of the best porters around. Just nasty out there w the wind today. Will do a little yard work during the early part of this snoozer noon slate.
-
Penn State VS Me-e-e-chigan should be decent on ABC
-
Gonna be 70 and sunny here today. So still no chili weather. Maybe in December.
I have some nicely seasoned mesquite splits that I'll burn down to coals and some prime tenderloin steaks I pulled out of the freezer. I prefer strip but the i s c & a aggie wife likes tenderloin so there you have it.
Both the ag and horns games are on at the same time tonight, and then there's Texas-Gonzaga roundball later in the evening. I suppose I should get the honey-dos started now...
-
Staying in town this weekend. Hitting the brunch bars to focus on several early kickoffs. #6 Michigan @ Penn State. #8 Oklahoma @ Baylor. Miss St @ #17 Auburn. Taking an afternoon break before heading out to ASU's alumni bar down the street for their game @ Washington, who will be absent their coach this evening.
-

Just me perhaps but smoke doesn't touch perfectly good steaks - NOPE
-
If you burn down to coals, I'm not sure there would be any smoke. Heat is heat.
-
Oh,though he was using the smoker, then by all means have at it
-
If you burn down to coals, I'm not sure there would be any smoke. Heat is heat.
Correct. No smoke. That's the point of burning down to coals.
You still get mesquite flavor from the coals but it's subtle and not smoky at all.
-
Oh,though he was using the smoker, then by all means have at it
Nah this will be direct heat on the grill.
-
We're actually at my in-laws west of Ann Arbor this weekend. We needed to get out of the Twin Cities before the holidays and basketball starting.
A suggestion to go to Lansing to watch State was not well received.
Watching the Floyd game, though.
-
Biting the bullet and going out with my wife this morning for clothes shopping for her. 5 minutes of waiting, 10 seconds of thumbs up / down, rinse repeat. 4 hours expected.
She gets the morning. I get the efternoon / evening.
Happy wife, happy life.

Can't go wrong with smash burgers.

My wife's hobby is buying lots of clothes online, trying them on, and then returning approximately 97% because they don't fit right or she doesn't like them.
It'd be a lot more efficient to just spend a day at the mall. But it's basically all free shipping and gets returned in store, so the exercise costs nothing for what she doesn't keep...
-
Blake Corum with the dreaded high ankle sprain. He out.
Donovan Edwards is back.
-
how was that not intentional grounding? Clifford threw it to an offensive linemen.
-
jesus christ that was pathetic. Dax Hill continues to be overrated and give up big plays.
Ojabo and Hutchinson already flashing. God damn I LOVE both these kids.
-
Clifford is apparently mobile again
-
Hutchinson was HELD like CRAZY on that Clifford scramble. How was that not called? Dude got bear hugged lol.
-
Clifford is apparently mobile again
looking like that will be there only chance at a running game. Clifford already running for his life and game just started.
-
how was Gemon Green ever starting over DJ Turner? That's what I'd like to know....
Oh and I don't think I've ever seen quite the transformation of a player at Michigan like I'ver seen from Vincent Gray. He went from being GOD AWFUL- maybe the worst starting CB I've ever seen at Michigan- to being a competent B1G starter.
-
Hutchinson was HELD like CRAZY on that Clifford scramble. How was that not called? Dude got bear hugged lol.
You need to go to a Penn St board between the two programs - at least homer boards,M/PSU are both convinced the BIG/Refs both have it out for them
-
That throw felt like it was in the air for an hour
-
Harbaugh is a JOKE. If you called a timeout because you thought they might be faking it- and THEN YOU STILL give up the fake.
Harbaugh is just a shitty coach. Period.
-

Hang time that DB should have swatted that
-
https://twitter.com/freak_leader/status/1459571091903598600?s=20
have we ever seen a collapse like Clemson?
-
Hang time that DB should have swatted that
might explain why that DB - #14 Quentin Johnson hasn't seen the field yet in 3 years in the program- despite being a 4*, Top 250 recruit and running 4.3 at the Nike Opening thing. Dude obviously stinks at playing the ball.
-
Hutchinson and Ojabo already flashing nearly every play. I am going to miss the hell out of these guys when they are in the NFL. They are both special.
-
Ump found himself in no man's land
-
That...was a bad pass
-
Hutchinson and Ojabo already flashing nearly every play. I am going to miss the hell out of these guys when they are in the NFL. They are both special.
Ojabo doesn't get the the press as much as hutch, but they copliment each other and he's disruptive
-
Cade's nickname should be Captain Checkdown.
Also- he's so short- I feel like A LOT of his passes get batted down.
I think he's a decent player and really good back-up QB- but this program is going nowhere fast with him.
-
That...was a bad pass
yeah...he's just not that good.
he doesn't throw a lot interceptions, but he also doesn't make big plays. he's not mobile and can't escape the pocket or make plays with his feet. his arm is pretty weak- typically i am not one that thinks you need a cannon arm- but you do need above average arm strength- he doesn't even have that. He's also short- maybe 6ft max- and a lot of his passes seem to get tipped at the line.
He's smart, knows the system well, won't turn it over much- and I think he's a HELL of a lot better than Joe Milton ever was- that was obvious to anybody with a set of eyeballs because Joe Milton really sucks- but this is not a QB that you are going to win anything with. He's definition of game manger/back-up QB.
-
this is soooooo pathetic. These players are SO close to getting Clifford down 10x a play but blow it every single time. Will someone just f*ckin tackle the guy? He's not Michael Vick.
-
WOW,Clifford,he plays with pain
-
Michigan starting super poorly. They are going to lose this game. They are just playing like shit and not making any big plays at all outside of Ojabo and Hutch.
-
Clifford definitely using Michigan's aggressiveness on the edge against them
-
Clifford definitely using Michigan's aggressiveness on the edge against them
their inability to get him on the ground and his scrambles are what is going to win them the game.
-
Well, James Franklin being dumb helps Michigan. What the hell was that?
-
And THIS is why James Franklin is a shitty coach.
Brooooooooo
-
Well, James Franklin being dumb helps Michigan. What the hell was that?
They win games in spite of him. He's an excellent recruiter- and a god awful coach.
-
I dunno, that could have worked, but JF just took 3 points off the board for his boys. That may loom large later.Yes on the recruiting
-
I dunno, that could have worked, but JF just took 3 points off the board for his boys. That could loom large
They are at the 2 yard line.
You either take the sure points and kick the FG, or you put the offense back on the field and put the ball in Clifford's hands and let him try to get the TD and go for it.
THAT? That was just stupid af. Dude fumbled it and now Michigan will have ball at 30. Go for it- and even if you don't get it- you pin Michigan at their 2 yard line.
That was just some dumbass shit. Franklin gonna Franklin.
-
That was just some dumbass shit. Franklin gonna Franklin.
The things is the guy dropped a good pitch,I'm a believer in taking early easy points I don't care what the stats say
-
I literally do not know how much more of Cade McNamara and this offense I can watch. Put in JJ. Now.
-
Sainistril that was so dumb- could've pinned them by just batting the ball back.
-
Florida currently losing 21-14 to Samford.
-
Braelon Allen is a BEAST. And he's 17.
-
Braelon Allen is a BEAST. And he's 17.
Dude, you're in Europe. Stop posting on the GD interwebz and go grab some wine or something!
-
Michigan playing like absolute hot garbage.
If not for Hutchinson & Ojabo and Franklin doing his typical dumbshit- Michigan would be getting blown out right now and not down by only 3.
-
time to bench Cade.
-
Dude, you're in Europe. Stop posting on the GD interwebz and go grab some wine or something!
Had a lot of Port today. Chillin' now. Gonna try ONE last time to get a good meal here in Lisboa.
Have I mention that the food SUCKS here?
-
Some tough sledding running the ball against PSU, same as OSU found
-
Florida currently losing 21-14 to Samford.
Tied up, now. How is this possible? Team has quit.
-
Braelon Allen is a BEAST. And he's 17.

To be fair, supper isn't served until 8 or 9 PM, so there's plenty of time to guzzle port and watch football (both types) prior to dinner.
-
As for Clemson, they were a middling program that was known for blown leads. So reversion to the mean was to be expected sometime.
-
ugliest deep ball I've ever seen by Cade. Kid has a wet noodle for an arm.
We need to see more Andrel Anthony. I think this kid is going to be SPECIAL. So happy they got him away from MSU.
-
To be fair, supper isn't served until 8 or 9 PM, so there's plenty of time to guzzle port and watch football (both types) prior to dinner.
I'm onto JW RED now. Gonna get hammered so I can tolerate their shit food here.
-
21-0 Badgers over the Nerds.
-
Cade with a strike there
-
gotta give credit where it's due- that was the best throw Cade has EVER made. That throw was on the money. Best throw he's ever made. By far.
-
Cade with a strike there
I am legitimately shocked. That was the best throw I've ever seen from him. Tight spiral right on the money- hit his WR in stride right in the numbers. Best throw he's ever made. By a mile.
-
21-0 Badgers over the Nerds.
Wisconsin was left for dead. Now they'll probably win the West.
Michigan kicked your ass pretty good, but y'all really should've won the Penn State game and then Wisconsin was up by 3 in the 4th QTR vs ND until they had complete collapse on special teams and started turning the ball over like it was their job.
-
Haskins is a machine. I LOVE watching this guy. If he had that 4.3-4.4 speed- my god he would be a top 10 pick.
-
That was...not interference
-
That was...not interference
weak ass call- but that makes up for the multitude of holds they haven't called on Penn State vs Hutchinson.
-
Unbelievably WEAK ASS blocking by the OL and TE's on that reverse.
-

Lots of new pieces and parts to put together on offense.
-
Jim Harbaugh is a literal retard. That play call on 4th and 2 is what a retard would call. And they snapped the ball with like 20 seconds left. Why not run the clock all the way down?
-
how do you leave someone that wide open?
-
how was a hold not called?
Ojabo is SUCH a stud. WHY CAN'T MICHIGAN RECOVER THE BALL ON THESE FUMBLES.
-
Penn State FG kicker has a leg. That was 50+ yards.
-
Samford up 42-28. I know Florida fired their defensive coordinator. Are they just going without a coordinator?
-
Put JJ in. Throw a hail mary. He's got the arm to do something.
-
Samford up 42-28. I know Florida fired their defensive coordinator. Are they just going without a coordinator?
Mullen trying his best to get fired.
-
would Florida getting blown out at home by a 4-5 Samford team be worse than Michigan losing to a FCS national champion App State on a last second FG?
-
Samford up 42-28. I know Florida fired their defensive coordinator. Are they just going without a coordinator?
Yep, Coach Sandlot.
Will Wisconsin's DC move to Gainesville for like $5 mil a year?
-
would Florida getting blown out at home by a 4-5 Samford team be worse than Michigan losing to a FCS national champion App State on a last second FG?
No, Florida stinks. Michigan was top 5 at the time of their game.
-
Yep, Coach Sandlot.
Will Wisconsin's DC move to Gainesville for like $5 mil a year?
that would be a great hire.
-

Granted the coaching plainly sucks across both sidelines, but for all the in-game venom I’m seeing on this thread and Twitter, I’m glad I don’t have a dog in this fight, meaning I can appreciate Penn St-Michigan for what the old-timey, purist Big Ten fans tell me is the college football they grew up with: A 7-6 halftime score, lots of hard hitting and physicality along the lines, and noontime football in frosty weather. Looking forward to the 2nd Half.

Plus one, definitely enjoying this game.

LMFAO. That is amazing.
-
Michigan scores TD's in the red zone and Penn State can run for gains more than 10 yards now? Is this real life?
-
A little loose with that chopping for my liking but great work otherwise.
-
Hutchinson is SUCH a stud.
-
A little loose with that chopping for my liking but great work otherwise.
This might be the first time I've ever seen "loose" used correctly on the internet (not erroneously-spelled "lose).
-
Also a defensive battle between Sooners and Baylor. Baylor up 10-7. Might see Spencer Rattler again.
-
did Michigan REALLY just run a sweep with a f**cking TE that runs a 4.65? On 1st down?
WHAT. THE. F**K.
-
Well back from the chores and as I see the score and the missed FG, I wonder if JF would like that fake FG back?
-
Well back from the chores and as I see the score and the missed FG, I wonder if JF would like that fake FG back?
Pretty sure he wanted that back halfway through the attempt
-
Johnson wide open- and of course Cade throws it 10 yards over his head.
-
christ about time they called ONE holding call.
Almost the 4th QTR and Michigan has like 7-8 sacks and they FINALLY call a much deserved hold.
-
Cade is so bad. Haskins has a BIG gain there on that 3rd down if Cade doesn't throw it behind and low into the dirt. Hit Hasksins in the numbers and lead him- that's a BIG play.
-
this is like MSU all over again.
Michigan literally incapable of putting teams away bc their offense sucks.
-
PSU finally breaks through the goal line
-
Holy hell PSU makes the two point conversion. New ballgame.
-
Florida is nickeling with Samford, 56-52.
We are in the upside-down.
-
Baylor, absent a miracle, will beat Oklahoma. Up 24-7 with four minutes left.
-
Michigan will lose this game just like MSU- because Harbaugh is a SHITTY coach and they have no killer instinct and cannot put games they are controlling into the 4th QTR away.
They had so many opportunities to get points up 14-6 and didn't even get a FG. McNamara sucks. Harbaugh sucks. Fire him and start this shit over again.
Michigan just lost this game when they allowed PSU to score and get the 2pt. Ohio State will BLOW Harbaugh off the field. No point in seeing any more of this crap.
-
In both Penn State’s TD and 2PC catches Michigan had their receivers completely covered. Penn State also converted 2 4th downs late in the drive. The late poise Penn State is showing was surely learned from their 9OT game a few weeks ago.
-
Also, WTF is going on in Bloomington? 38-3 Rutgers? Isn't losing to Rutgers an automatic termination offense?
-
OMG
-
So predictable. LOL.
Harbaugh is the ultimate choke artist. He really needs to go.
-
Sooners with an impressive performance to only lose by ten to Baylor. Much more impressive than beating a bad South Florida team by 17.
-
Touchdown Wolverines on an absolute perfect playcall
-
wow that had to be a pick OPI
-
Erick All is a super talented TE. About time they got him involved in the passing game.
-
wow that had to be a pick OPI
that's a staple of modern passing offenses- every fricken team runs pick play crossing routes that never get called. OSU is the king of this.
-
24-14 Baylor over the Sooners
:43 seconds left in the 4th
-
that's a staple of modern passing offenses- every fricken team runs pick plays that never get called. OSU is the king of this.
Yes, but you have to at least pretend it was an accidently running into the defender. Haven't seen the replay so I don't know for sure.
-
So predictable. LOL.
Harbaugh is the ultimate choke artist. He really needs to go.
You spoke too soon.
-
GO FOR THE DAMN TOUCHDOWN. END THE DAMN GAME. RIGHT NOW.
-
You spoke too soon.
game is not over yet.
-
Yes, but you have to at least pretend it was an accidently running into the defender. Haven't seen the replay so I don't know for sure.
Don't think so. PSU defenders ran into each other
https://twitter.com/thebluepennant/status/1459618394572009475?s=20
-
OK. So they have Maryland next week. Unless they really just shit the bed vs a bad Maryland team- they will be 10-1 at home vs Ohio State with a chance to play for all the marbles.
Harbaugh better treat that one like his life depends on it.
-
Don't think so. PSU defenders ran into each other
https://twitter.com/thebluepennant/status/1459618394572009475?s=20
Yep no OPI.
-
Purdue with a 16 yard punt. I'm starting a fire and I'm glad I'm not at the game
-
Also, WTF is going on in Bloomington? 38-3 Rutgers? Isn't losing to Rutgers an automatic termination offense?
Everyone and everything in the program has collapsed into themselves like a dying star. Several coaches need to be fired. The commits haven’t bolted yet but it’s inevitable. There will probably be many defections too. Next year could be the same or worse. IU football is back and somehow, some way, I stick around for it.
-

Eat Arby's
-
Garrett Wilson touchdown!
-
Have to give Dave Aranda a hand. Not just for doing a good job coaching Baylor. The end of Oklahoma-Baylor was strange - the Sooners had lost, and the refs, and apparently Baylor, were trying to add seconds to the clock so Baylor could kick a field goal. I thought that was weird, but Aranda explained it was for Big12 tiebreaker procedures, which include a score differential component.
-
And Purdue marches down and scores. Tie game.
-
Touchdown saving facemask
-
Hoowaa!!
-
What is Tennessee wearing?
-
Yep, Coach Sandlot.
Will Wisconsin's DC move to Gainesville for like $5 mil a year?
F you.
-
IU football 2020 one of the great con jobs of all time. Home wins over PSU and Mich in front of empty stands, handling UW at Camp Randall. Sold a lot of tickets this year.
-
F you.
When you don't open your wallet....
-
Baylor, absent a miracle, will beat Oklahoma. Up 24-7 with four minutes left.
Dave Aranda is a great coach.
-
LOL Purdue definitely pulling out the stops for this one. The underhand snap
-
I don't understand why Purdue would change quarterbacks, but they did, a fumble, and OSU recovers.
-
Love that substitution
-
YA BABY
-
Henderson! Damn those are some jets
-
Time for our Defense to score one
-
4th and 6
-
That'll work
-
Smith-Njigba really coming out the past two weeks. 28-7 Buckeyes.
-
Georgia in a game with Tennessee so far, down 10-7
-
Gopher offense stalls again. More inside draw bullshit.
-
The ole knuckleball kickoff stymies Purdue
-
Should have signaled a fair catch - not rocket surgery
-
Gotta hang on to that
-
TD,HooWaa!!!
-
OSU back to good offense. 35-7 Buckeyes.
-
5 possessions 5 TDs
-
Drive stalls AGAIN
-
No clean review, no overturn.
-
On that TD, I had visions of 2003, where the Gophers lost 3 fumbles going into the end zone or in the 1.
All square at 10, not expecting that.
-
Nice job Defense, sitting back and resting on a lead
-
Nice throw and catch for Purdue. 35-14.
-
FUMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!
-
Stroud sharp there
-
HOOWAA!!!
-
The rare jet sweep for the Buckeyes - Wilson touchdown. 42-14
-
Buckeyes came to play today. They have so much fire power on offense it's a joke. Only prayer to beat them is to hope Ryan Day is in a play-calling funk and Stroud is having an off game. When they click- holy shit they can score in bunches and f***cking fast as shit. If you don't have an offense that can go blow to blow with them in the pass game- you're almost screwed.
-
Gophers kick a FG to go up 13-10 at the break.
Really messy spot there on the 3rd down play.
-
Well the D stepped up a little
-
Purdue with a long drive, but settles for a field goal. 42-17. Purdue has actually been pretty good offensively - two turnovers and zero stops have led to the big margin for OSU.
-
Good first half for the Gophers, but a lot of missed chances.
Also, Georgia with a huge save, they're going right down the field, up 17-10 and looking for more on the last drive of the half.
-
Karlaftis almost went to Michigan. It was really close. My god it would've been ILLEGAL to have Karlaftis, Hutchinson, and Ojabo all on the same front 7. How the F do you stop that? Would've been the greatest Michigan DL ever.
-
Damn what's happened to Olave the guy use to be money, now he's juggling eggs
-
Now take the ball and BURY THESE CLOWNS!
-
391 total 1st half yds
-
Finally we hold them to a FG.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, scores 7 straight touchdowns against this Purdue defense.
-
Ugggh, bad Tanner again. Airmail over CAB'S head.
Now a penalty for interference with a fair catch. Dumb mistake bails the coffin corner out.
-
just a thought here- but if you're Dave Aranda, and USC, LSU, and Florida offer you the job- which one do you take?
-
Gators
-
that did not look like an egregious hold. weak call.
That was an insanely beautiful deep pass and what a route by Olave to get wide open.
-
2021 Ohio State might have the most explosive college offense I've ever seen. Olave, Garrett Wilson, JSN, Henderson, and Stroud pulling the trigger- this is just stupid.
-

Oregon had some good offenses a few years ago, but we don't often see them in the Midwest. That said, Ohio State is very explosive.
-
The Minnesota-Iowa game is coming down to a very close ending, with Iowa relying on its defense, and not finding much offense, and Minnesota just scoring on a 68-yard pass to come within two. But there is a flag, but it was picked up.
-
Minnesota now going for a two-point conversion.
-
Minnesota now missing 2-point conversion.
-
Oregon had some good offenses a few years ago, but we don't often see them in the Midwest. That said, Ohio State is very explosive.
they had explosive rushing offenses- which yeah- I don't really care about nor do those impress me. They were like a modern day Nebraska offense. I really don't care about the run game- I don't think you can win with a run game anymore. Have to be able to pass at high level to win anything today.
Oregon even in its heyday NEVER had an offense with a deep passing game this explosive or with WR's this scary good. Not even close.
-
We started with a nice brewery pretzel and cheese dipping sauce. I had a pulled pork sandwich with some fresh house made potato chips. Beer-wise, I started with the Marzen and then had two of their West Coast IPAs.
Sounds like missing the game was a good choice today.

Mike Sanford has turned Tanner into a rotted out shell of his former self. The Badgers are going to come to Minneapolis in two weeks and win 35-7 in a game not nearly as close as the final score indicated.
Ugh. What a spectacular collapse.

Texas Tech kicks time expiring 62 yard FG to top Iowa State 41-38.
With that loss, Iowa State falls to 6-4 and, along with fellow preseason top ten fallout North Carolina (5-5), has to be considered one of this season’s most disappointing teams.
The Cyclones have the most productive passer AND rusher in school history, an experienced OL and 8 or 9 SRs on D yet Matt Campbell’s roster has looked half asleep all season.
-
Bears kicker humiliated watching that Tech kicker crush that 62 yarder.
-
KU w some interesting uniforms tonight. The looney tunes helmet decal and 'Jayhawk' on the front.

Sounds like missing the game was a good choice today.
It was really only the first 20 minutes you wouldn't have liked, after that it was 24-all in the last 40 minutes.
Those first 20 minutes though, yikes! Purdue was basically the Murphy's law of football. If it could go wrong for them, it did go wrong for them. Just off the top of my head they had a shanked punt, a muffed KO return, and a fumbled exchange. Ohio state scored TD's every time they touched the ball and the game was basically over whenvthe second quarter was still new.
I'm not sure that Georgia could afford that many mistakes against Ohio State and Purdue was hopeless. It was 35-7 before people's seats were warm.
-
Ole miss, 59 plays, 408 yards in first half. Only a 15-0 lead.
-
Ku w 3 tds in 2 minutes. 35-14.
-
Spent a chunk of the day hungover after a wedding or seeing friends. Wisconsin winning was good. Not a bad day, overall, I think.

He feels like one of those OCs that HCs feel is pretty competent but almost no fan feels that good about.
-
Speaking of WTF, is that score in Austin correct?
-
In my running bit of throwing shade on the last two years of Jimbo at A&M, this Ole Miss score is interesting.
If it holds, he'll have a team that went 9-3 with a win against Bama (a somewhat classic Mike Leach style, pull a big win, not that consistent, squad) after a somewhat soft top-5 campaign. Neither of these are bad, but they're also not what you pay all the money in the world for. But, if folks there are happy with it, is what it is.

So no one's gonna mention Texas losing to Kansas?

Didn't see that, didn't know Maine could field a team, either - had some bad asses in the Civil War though.Texas, wow it's broke they have to have some talent, enough to beat Kansas.Either players mailed it in or the staff isn't getting across to them. Kansas certainly reached back and left everything on the field but man that a once in an every other decade loss

What you did there...I saw it.Imagine the excuses when they join your Dawg's conference

Florida did some Big 12ing yesterday also. With an FCS oppo.

I'm calling it "Nickeling" - when the losing team scores 50+.
I'm not sure I recognize football anymore. Zone-read RPO shotgun every play vs 8 defensive backs trying to find reverse on a Soviet tank.....

Mullen isn't very adept at handling the media, though to be fair, I'm not sure what he could really say. Some honesty might work?

For those of you who believe QBR is a very legitimate measure of a quarterbacks performance, like I do, yesterday was very interesting. ( by no means is it perfect- or the end all be all)
In the Ohio State versus Purdue matchup, you have the nations top two ranked quarterbacks by QBR. And they both very much delivered. QBR per game performance in the 90s which is fantastic.
Mertz for Wisc. also had a brilliant QBR performance at better than 96. That is approaching perfection.
Lastly, McNamara for Michigan is in the top 11 nationally, which is why I kind of chuckle when M.continually screams for the back up quarterback.
I think it is McNamara that gives Michigan a good chance to run the table and get to the playoff.

It was their second loss to the Jayhawks in the last 5 years. So a four time a decade loss, at that clip. The highlights were something though. Texas stormed back from huge deficits two or three times, only to blow it in OT.

Baylor is a well-coached team. They'll likely lose their current head coach in the near future, and will somehow find another good one to replace him. Some teams seem capable of doing that. Others, not so much.
-

A shitty Texas team is perfect for the SEC powers that be. They get increased access to Texas television markets and recruiting, without any threat to their traditional powers.

Didn't understand the Sark hire,he wasn't all that on his own and prone to benders (as we all can be).I might be wrong but it seems like every year they are getting their fare share of talent on the Forty Acres.Aranda or even Leonard have to be on someone's radar.I'd take a chance on a coach who has been successful at smaller venues be it Div I,II,III.The mechanics/techniques/Xs and Os are the same.Just the size of players and stadiums change

hope he gets fired just cause yes I am still bitter for that stunt he pulled with recruiting Worthy to Texas after Worthy already signed an LOI with Michigan.
Michigan would have an insane WR group going into 2022 had Worthy just remained blue. Ronnie Bell, Worthy, Roman Wilson, Andrel Anthony, Cornelius Johnson, AJ Henning and Erick All would've been a sight to see.
-
My senior year playing baseball in HS the team basically quit on the coach. We were good, but in the playoffs we all quietly wanted the season to be over. We lost two in a row to much inferior teams, just had no desire to win, at all. We did get that coach fired at least. He was atrocious.

wouldn't it be something if Worthy hit the portal and transferred back to Michigan? LOL.

it would be more sumthin if he transferred to Nebraska

It's hard to imagine pulling the plug after only two years.
But, as someone around here likes to point out, for really good coaches, year 2 is pretty much where you know you have one, or not.
I never wanted him to begin with so I'd be fine with firing him today. Or three weeks ago.

yeah- I never got that. Like I get firing Herman- but firing him for Sark? WTF? Herman was clearly a better coach than Sark. At least take a flier on an up and comer- makes zero sense to just hire a retread that is clearly inferior to the guy you just fired. Like....wtf.
-
How much dead money is being paid on the 40 Acres? At some point they gotta keep Sark until that dead money charge cooks down.

I don't think Texas has a HC problem, they have a Texas problem. The atmosphere there is obviously toxic. Whatever combination of the boosters/expectations/reactions/etc is, it's not what I'd label "support."
A HC has to win in spite of it all. What sense does that make?
-
that's a staple of modern passing offenses- every fricken team runs pick play crossing routes that never get called. OSU is the king of this.
Pick's are NOT illegal. Each player is entitled to a spot on the field. As long as the receiver does NOT intentionally block the defender, it is a legal play.

The atmosphere? You mean expectations based on long history of doing well? What would be the alternative, Vandy?
Texas is not Vandy, nor should it be. Texas has recruited well of late, they have talented players, they have lost five in a row. I think the "atmosphere" should be toxic, whatever that means.

I think it was a case of "FIRE THAT MFer! WE'LL FIND SOMEONE ELSE." And then picking Sark when Urby said nah. That first part is a pretty common feeling, as we know.
Looking it over, lean year in the big-name hired dept. Bryan Harsin was like a fourth choice. Heupel was like ninth. It was so bad, Bert to Illinois was ranked as sixth best by Athlon. Oof.
-
This is why I wouldn't fire a coach without a pretty well considered plan. Just to fire him and then wonder what next is a bad mistake, as we see repeatedly.
Now if they could get Aranda, I'd be tempted, but I'd reach out to his agent covertly and see what it would take, and then move.
-
look- you can fire guys- but you have to take a risk on a young guy or an up and comer. Sark DOES NOT fit that bill. At all. Sark was a failure- at two big-time P5 programs. WTF made Texas think he was going to magically turn it around just because he spent the night with Saban?
Too many times these schools fire coaches and then think they have HAVE to get a "big name" and then when the big name doesn't come they think they have to get a mediocre guy who has had head coach experience at a big program.
You're better off just not even going after the big name- and you're better off staying THE HELL AWAY from failures and retreads like Sark.
Look at the schools that always find great coaches- think Baylor- think MSU- they don't go after the flavor of the month or hot name- they just go out and find good coaches. There are PLENTY of them out there.

Yup. I keep laughing at people that think Texas boosters and fans are different than any other helmet school. Texas has made bad hires.
Oklahoma went through multiple bad hires in short succession until they landed on Stoops. Alabama went through multiple bad hires in short succession until they landed on Saban. Were they "toxic" too because they made bad decisions? Laughable.

I mean, Texas took the up and comer in Herman, and before that grabbed a guy who won 71 percent of his games at a lesser school. I don't particularly like the retread mindset, but the process is always gonna get blasted when it goes sideways.
On those two hires you mentioned, Baylor got a guy who looked all sorts of out of his depth in Year 1, taking a 11-win team, 8-1 in conference, and going 2-7. MSU took an SEC DC who went 5-7 at Colorado, and then took a 7-6 team and went 2-5.
I don't think Sark will succeed, but both those schools went out, found good coaches, watched them struggle in Year 1 and then look good in Year 2. So it doesn't make much sense to shower them with praise less than a full season into actually having success. Plenty of coaches seem like they'll be good less than two seasons in.
-

Yeah, Herman and Strong were both considered "up and comers" at the time. It's interesting seeing the script rewritten now.
Texas has typically avoided taking a coordinator and making him the head coach, although that clearly worked for Stoops at OU. Sark was sort of that, but he also had a fairly lengthy resume' as a head coach, with results ranging from mediocre, to disastrous. This was NOT the risk to take, and I was not buying it, from day 1. Still, as a Texas fan, I have no choice but to root for his success. What else am I going to do?
-

Mel has been all over the place but started at MSU under Saban with a couple of stops in the BIG/SEC/NFL each and the Buffs off the top of my head.I thought Herman had the right trajectory he had won the Broyles award for MVP among CFB assistants and had a good stay at Houston.I really don't think tOSU wins the 2014 NC with out his work with the QBs.I don't think he's done he can bounce back.I didn't see that with Sark, but they will prolly give him one more season

The only real influence they have, is during the selection of coaches. They can influence the AD/president by either providing cash for the buyout of the current guy, or providing cash to land the new guy, and his assistants.
For the Sark hire, the boosters were only involved in the former. They wanted Herman gone, and provided the cash for the buyout. The school president, and the athletic director, were solely responsible for choosing Sark. Like I said at the time, the AD, Chris del Conte, staked his career on this choice. If Sark fails, the AD will go down with him.
-

That's true. His resume is interesting.
Saban GA to position coach, with a MAC stop between
Tress position coach with one year as No. 2 DC
Stretch as a NFL postiton coach to seven years as a DC, which for the most part were a failure
One year as a Saban position coach, to three years as a Kirby DC (so basically a guy working under a similar guy)
Then Colorado
So if it goes wrong, he's an NFL washout who got some Saban tree dust sprinkled on him. But, at the moment, it sounds like he's a good coach. That resume doesn't tell you a ton. Certianly doesn't paint an up and comer. In five years, we'll know if he's it or not.
Let's face it, Will Muschamp was 33-19 in Years 1 and 2, 20-6 in Year 2s. IN Year 2, Harbs had the Wolverines looking ready to go. Dan Mullen was 21-5 with someone else's guys. Long way between Year 2 and long-term contentment.

They can also threaten to withhold tons of money if they don't get their guy. I know at least two SEC spots where the money tried to have or did have a big say on the pick.
I guess Texas wasn't this because the money wanted Urban (it sounded like), and once he was out, no one wanted to own a search with the set of names out there.
-

Sure, that's part of the "influence" I'm talking about. They can try to have a say in who is hired. In the past, perhaps they have. But Charlie Strong most certainly wasn't the choice of "the money" and really neither was Tom Herman.
I guess Texas wasn't this because the money wanted Urban (it sounded like), and once he was out, no one wanted to own a search with the set of names out there.
Urban was certainly first choice, and that was coming from across the board. Boosters, administration, were all aligned. For obvious reasons, that would have been considered a slam dunk. When he said "no thanks" then it was left in the hands of the school's administration and AD. They're the ones that, for whatever reason, wanted Sarkisian. They're the ones that will go down with the ship, too.

You can't really compare them,Mel walked into slim pickens. He's done wonders this season even if they don't win another game.Muschamp and Harbs walked into solid rosters, and Mullen at least into furtile recruitng fields.Every coach needs at least 3 yrs,but Mel has a leg up on the others so far IMO,time will tell but unless he looses focus i like his chances.
Mullen is the head scratcher here as I thought he had what it takes

A coach at a major program can have the occasional 9-4ish season thrown into the mix, but it's tough to explain where Florida is, or Texas.
-
“Florida's haggling over what?” Pate said (https://twitter.com/LateKickJosh/status/1460083613102444546). “Some people are concerned over, what, $12 million? If you want to flex that SEC muscle, flex it when it's time. Don't flex it when Georgia wins the Sugar Bowl and you just chant 'SEC' along with everyone else. No — when it's time to flex the SEC muscle is when you may need to get off that back pocket, that hip pocket where that wallet is supposed to be. Maybe you need to pay a couple extra dollars to rectify a situation that is past needing to be rectified.(https://img.connatitwitter.com/78602cf1-2960-450f-af23-1028cdd633ae/1827f38f-d1f4-4b66-aa30-35da921d6e40.jpg?crop=600:338,smart&width=600&height=338&format=jpeg&quality=60&fit=crop)READ MORE (https://247sports.com/Article/College-Football-coaching-news-Coaching-Search-Updates-LSU-USC-TCU-Texas-Tech-173446429/?traffic_source=Connatix)(https://img.connatitwitter.com/78602cf1-2960-450f-af23-1028cdd633ae/efd74727-9a7c-4361-8e72-ac9a24560f00.jpg?crop=600:338,smart&width=600&height=338&format=jpeg&quality=60&fit=crop)(https://img.connatitwitter.com/78602cf1-2960-450f-af23-1028cdd633ae/0d2b788a-e20e-424f-9f15-43d9cc9025a1.jpg?crop=600:338,smart&width=600&height=338&format=jpeg&quality=60&fit=crop)(https://img.connatitwitter.com/78602cf1-2960-450f-af23-1028cdd633ae/4c5ed650-6899-4bbb-8f3f-a7d3e783064f.jpg?crop=600:338,smart&width=600&height=338&format=jpeg&quality=60&fit=crop)(https://img.connatitwitter.com/78602cf1-2960-450f-af23-1028cdd633ae/78c8d431-16d1-4bee-9fcc-c83745b69218.jpg?crop=600:338,smart&width=600&height=338&format=jpeg&quality=60&fit=crop)(https://img.connatitwitter.com/78602cf1-2960-450f-af23-1028cdd633ae/30d6fec1-4072-47f4-804e-d534a5de6091.jpg?crop=600:338,smart&width=600&height=338&format=jpeg&quality=60&fit=crop)2021 Coaching Carousel updates (https://247sports.com/Article/College-Football-coaching-news-Coaching-Search-Updates-LSU-USC-TCU-Texas-Tech-173446429/?traffic_source=Connatix)
“And I'm not gonna listen to anyone tell me, ‘Well, Florida, the university of can't be competitive in the open market.’ Are you kidding me? If you feel that way, and you are a decision maker, if you're a decision maker at Florida, and you feel the market being too crowded is a deterrent and you can't hang and your job is not of elite caliber, you need to get out of the way and let other people make decisions.
“And for that matter, if you're undecided right now and you're looking at these upcoming games — Missouri and Florida State — and you're saying, ‘Well, let's let the outcomes there decide this,’ you also need to get out of the way. If anyone around Florida is looking at these last two games and saying, ‘I don't know yet whether Mullen is still our guy, but I'll tell you what, I'll know after a game in Columbia, Missouri, or I'll know after a game against Florida State,’ you don't have a proper perspective on how this stuff works. And you need to get out of the way and let someone who has a lot more grip on rationale, make the decision.
“There is nothing you're going to learn over the next two weeks you don't already know about Dan Mullen (https://247sports.com/Coach/Dan-Mullen-294). Now, if you want to tell me, 'I've seen enough, he's still my guy,' we'll just agree to disagree. But if you look at me, and you say, ''I don't know about it yet, next eight quarters of football will tell the tale,' after however many years next eight quarters of football will tell the tale we're a bounce of a ball or a boink off the upright good change a win to a loss or loss to a win, you don't need to see anymore.”

A coach at a major program can have the occasional 9-4ish season thrown into the mix, but it's tough to explain where Florida is, or Texas.

Mark Richt once said he loved coaching at UGA but if there was one thing he could change, it would be having more control over the boosters. UGA once had a player accept an offer on Twitter, based on a booster, that had never been offered.
