Mo Hurst Jr. is PFF's highest graded player in the Power 5 on the season with a 96.9 grade.

Yeah, he's good. Had he left for the 2017 draft, bet he'd have went in the 3rd or 4th round of that draft. With the season he just put together, as long as he doesn't bomb at the combine or fail drug tests or have terrible interviews, he's pretty much a lock to be a top 20 pick in the 2018 draft.

Always felt Willie Henry was in the same boat. Henry could've catapulted himself into the 1st round if he stayed and kept improving, and he would've made Michigan's DL absolutely insane in 2016. Henry went in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL draft after leaving early after the 2015 season. Henry is just starting to catch fire this year in Baltimore in his 2nd season.

Greg Mattison is a hell of a defensive line coach.

Can't find much room for gripe.  Bachie must have been a roller coaster, because he was on their weekly list a bunch, but the weeks he wasn't, must have been way down.

I don't recall noticing Richardson that much this year, but aside from that, not much wrong.

I think Bosa made more splash plays, but on a down to down basis, Hurst looked substantially better to me.  This reflects that.
they break down all the tape and ding players for blown assignments/missed tackles- that sort of thing. Iowa fans were throwing insults on twitter to PFF for not having Josey Jewell on the 1st team and they responded with this on their twitters;
Quote
Getting a lot of (expected) push back about #Hawkeyes LB Josey Jewell not making our All-Conference team, and I think his omission warrants further explanation...
As far as pure overall grade goes, his 85.7, while "elite" by our standards, ranks 9th in a stacked #B1G. He'd be 1st team in both SEC and PAC-12 by comparison.
Yesterday I mentioned his 16 missed tackles (most in the #B1G) hurt his grade, and some argued he was in position for more plays and that's why he had so many...

This is true to an extent, but among #B1G LBs he ranked 38th in tackling efficiency, which takes into account misses per attempt. By comparison, #Boilermakers LB Ja'Whuan Bentley had more total tackles than Jewell and half the MTs. Devin Bush missed just 3 total.

Jewell also finished 8th among #B1G LBs in run stop percentage, 28th in pass rush productivity and 36th in coverage snaps per reception allowed. He was targeted 50 times in coverage and gave up 40 receptions.

yeah, so they look at every thing when they grade a player.

That's the point we were making about the Purdue LB corps, BTW... Ja'Whaun Bentley has been a beast for the Boilers for 4 years (minus a portion where he was out injured in 2016). For as bad as Hazell was, somehow he managed to recruit linebackers that actually look and play like linebackers should in this conference.

Of course PFF uses their own brand of advanced stats, but Bentley is 1st-team All-American *nationally* in their system and he never saw more than an honorable mention from the All-B1G either media or coaches.

PFF had Bentley graded out as one of the best LB's in the entire country.
I'd go with PFF's All-B1G teams over media/coaches for sure. They have an army of former NFL coaches/scouts that watch tape and grade out players.
The teams done by the media and "coaches" are done by people in the media who really have no clue what they are talking about and the "coaches" are GA's filling out teams for the actual coaches because the actual coaches don't have the time to do it.
