RIP, one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time.

A slight correction, he didn't really change Nashville.  Nashville remained as it was, doing the same things it had been doing.

He was part of the Outlaw Country movement, along with Willie and Waylon, who were notable for their rejection of Nashville and determination to create a genre of country music all their own.

Outlaw country was incremental to Nashville, or more to the point, an alternative to it.

The Houston Chronicle says otherwise.

Puff piece.  What did the mainstream studios in Nashville either start doing, or stop doing, as a result of Kris Kristofferson's influence?  Nothing.

Outlaw country which was included in the broader movement called Progressive Country was incremental to Nashville, and for many people a welcome alternative to Nashville.  But it certainly didn't stop the Nashville studios from pumping out the same old crap they always had.

Heck, the modern Bro Country movement is just the current evolution of The Nashville Sound from all those decades ago.  Heartless, soulless mumbo jumbo.  No thanks.

A  much better and more interesting article wouldn't have made the erroneous assertion that Kristofferson changed Nashville, it would have explored the ways he and his friends and colleagues circumvented and superseded Nashville, creating better music without toiling under the thumb of the Nashville studios.
