Kris has the evidence in this one. I'm afraid this may be one of those times not to mock the ECFGs.

WVU has the right coach and is on the right track. However, when Holgo left, a ton of talent did too. They didn't jibe with the new guy for whatever reason (it happens to every program), and now their roster is sorely depleted.

Now, the game is played by 18-22 year old males with a funky shaped object. Anything is possible, and a 'eers win isn't outside uncertainty. On the contrary, it's certainly inside uncertainty (I just wanted to type that and have you read it). In the total, though, Texas is simply better at everything WVU wants to do.

Like most defenses that have to choose, I expect the Mountaineer defense to choose early on to clog the run. It's the right way to bet, but it relies on Texas making mistakes. Sam simply has to be on the same page as his receivers as he has all season. WVU is the last team in the league that wants to hear Texas' woes about a depleted secondary. They started with nobody and lost the somebodys who filled in.

The Mountaineer offense aims for 24 points. With enough possessions, they may get there. They're not terrible, they just have to choose what to do. Texas is vulnerable in the back end (if anything), but WVU can't threaten that in multiple places without advertising it. It will just be too easy to get that offense behind the chains, turn them predictable, and snuff it out.

They have a bright future, but they're in the midst of program turnover. Texas will seek to manage this game for the win, so the 11 points could be right, but that feels kinda light to me.

The above highlighted in red is sadly not QUITE true.  Sam's play in the first quarter against LSU was just abysmal.  Missing wide open receivers, not putting the ball in the right place when he did manage to see them.  Ingram's dropped TD pass didn't help either of course.  But other than that 15 minutes of hell, yeah, he's been very crisp.

Also agree Texas is going to attempt to manage this game, and play for NEXT week against the Sooners.  In general I dislike that and believe it to be courting trouble, but we'll see.  I don't think I'd bet the spread for Texas here because I don't think Texas is going to try to blow it out on offense.  Maybe a defensive score might put it over the top, but we don't seem to do that much under Herman/Orlando, the way we did pretty well under Mack.

Don't bet on it, Fearless.  IF Texas were fortunate enough to get into position to push for a big lead, I expect Herman to take his foot off the gas, and potentially pull key players early, to keep everyone healthy and rested before the OU game next week.

It's only 11.5 points

not many coaches take their foot off the gas with less than a 2 TD lead

Nice win, Longhorns.  WVU actually played them tougher than I expected.  I thought this would be one of those games where Texas maintained a lead between 17-20 points most of the game and we were never in it.  The back to back INTS in the 4th quarter are when the game finally got away.

I’ll tell ya a quick story about my day with my daughter.  We got to our seats early and sat directly behind some guy and his wife.  After a few minutes my daughter asks to trade me seats because she can’t see over him.  I trade her seats and realize he’s even somewhat blocking my field of vision and I’m 6’2.  This is a big dude.  So when we all stand for the national anthem I notice the top of his wife’s head only comes up to his elbow.  I even nudged my daughter and pointed it out.  This guy was really abnormally big.

Anyway, at halftime some guy comes up to him and taps him shoulder wanting a picture.  When the big dude turns around it’s Kevin Pittsnogle who played basketball for WVU from 2002-2006.  He was a key member of a couple of John Beilein’s teams here that were really good.  I don’t know if any of you Texas guys would remember him but he played on the team in 2006 when WVU and Texas played in the Sweet 16.  He hit a 3 with just a few seconds left to tie it up and then Kenton Paulino came down drained a 3 at the buzzer to give UT the win.

I tried to explain to my little girl who he was and what an icon he was here for a little while (Anyone remember someone coining the term, “You just not Pittsnogled!” When he hit a 3?).  I don’t think it registered with her though.  We also saw Major Harris at a store signing autographs.  Tried to explain to her who he was but, again, I think it went in one ear and out the other.  We had a really good day though.

Good luck the rest of the season.

Tough game as I expected.  Best of luck the rest of the season, Kris!

Too many picks for you

I would not credit WVU offense for at least 2, maybe 3 of those picks.

Can defense get credit for anything anymore?

Not sure what your gripe is BC

And you attributed the picks to oSu offense.

Everybody's an offense millennial these days.

i didn't read lh320's comment that way, I read it exactly the way he clarified it subsequently.  Which is to say, 4 INTs is just too many to overcome.  Appears to be true.

Yup, 4 turnovers has the impact of 12-20 points on a game if not offset by others.

why should the defense get so much credit for picks?  3 things can happen when you pass the ball, 2 of them are bad.  If the offense would have run the wishbone and had no passes the defense would have nothing
