I like the hire more for the symbolism in it than the actual substance of it. I think he can be successful. He has experience with some of the biggest clubs in the world. He's shown that he is adaptable which is an absolute necessity with a national team. The most important thing to me is that this hire demonstrates that the US wants to take soccer seriously and wants the world to take us seriously. Hiring and then rehiring Berhalter was the antithesis of that. Hiring some MLS guy would have done the same.

Yeah I like it.

Adaptability, flexibility, is going to be key.  We need someone who can understand that CONCACAF style of play is different than Euro style of play, but you have to be able to do both if you want to succeed.

Fortunately for us we don't need to qualify in CONCACAF for this World Cup, so maybe that bit is slightly less important.  But we still need to be able to compete in our hemisphere and then translate that to the world stage.

Sure it will.  After American football completely implodes in another decade or so, there will be a vacuum for athletic on-field sports.  Basketball and baseball aren't going to expand to fill that gap.
