Aside from Penn St everyone else in last week's top five lost over the weekend. So there is quite the shakeup in the rankings. Rutgers is back in the polls, after trouncing the Buckeyes. So the Wolverines are back to being the lone unranked Big Ten team.

The Big Ten Conference announced the 2019 Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Year, as voted upon by the conference coaches Monday. Nebraska men’s gymnast Anton Stephenson earned Co-Gymnast of the Year, sharing the honor with Minnesota’s Shane Wiskus. Illinois’ Michael Fletcher was awarded Freshman of the Year.

Evidently the criteria differs vastly from the Big Ten CFB CotY award.

The Nebraska track and field team received one weekly award from the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday, as Chase Wolinski was named the Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Wolinski won the javelin title with a personal-best throw of 177-0 (53.96m) at the Texas Relays last weekend. Her mark ranks sixth in school history, leads the Big Ten and ranks seventh in the nation this season.

Kind of a weird question, but what year did Penn St join the Big Ten for Olympic Sports? It just says 1990, so I read that as the 90-91 school year being their first, and that they had other arrangements during the 89-90 school year. But it could also mean that their 89-90 spring sports played in the Big Ten. Anyone know?

Your optimism is understandable but only one of those wins is currently in the top 25 (Denver).
https://www.insidelacrosse.com/league/wdi/polls/19
Only beating OSU by 5 goals raises an eyebrow for a top 10 team. Particularly since it was neck and neck for most of the game until it got a little out of hand there at the end. Notre Dame beat OSU by nearly twice as many goals (9), and the Buckeyes were coming off of a 15 goal loss to Maryland (16-1) the week before THE GAME. So by the transitive property vs OSU combined with the fact that the schedule turned out to be a lot softer than it initially appeared, I would speculate that the Wolverines are probably more in the 15-20 range. I'd expect them to go 1-2 vs the three remaining ranked teams on their slate, Hopkins, Maryland and Northwestern, with a blowout loss to the Terps (>10 goals) and splitting a pair of close games (<5 goals) vs the other two.
On the other hand a win is a win, and taking down a rival on the road is nothing to sneeze at. So I have them finishing 15-2 going into the Big Ten Tourney, and then a third loss in that Tourney, which "should" of course be good enough to get them into their first NCAA Tourney. That would no doubt be a pretty good cap to their first winning season in school history. At 2-0 in the Big Ten, they have already tied their record for Big Ten wins in a singular season (2-4 in 2018) and should, at the very least, beat unranked Rutgers for a new high water mark both in and out of conference.
Wlax
Well the Wolverines beat Hopkins 16-11, and just lost to the Terps 14-3. So I am a close Wolverine loss on the road against the Wildcats away from nailing that prediction (yes, I know that 5 is technically not >5, but come on). While I still believe that it will be a close game, I like Michigan's chances over the Wildcats a little better after the five goal win over Hopkins. Northwestern is coming in hot, winning five straight by at least five goals, but they have to play Maryland between now and then, while Michigan gets a tune up vs the Scarlet Knights at home. So momentum might well be on the side of the Wolverines going into Evanston.

W Lacrosse

Maryland clinched at least a share of the Big Ten Title, as well as the 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, with their victory over Northwestern. They can win the regular season title outright by defeating Hopkins at home in their finale.

Barring any unlikely upsets, the key games down the stretch with regards to Big Ten Tourney seeding will be:
Michigan @ Northwestern on Thursday 4/18. The winner should be the 2 seed, and the loser should be the 3 seed. The winner can technically still win a share of the Big Ten regular season Big Ten Title, if Maryland somehow barfs up their game vs Hopkins.
Penn St @ Hopkins on Friday 4/19. This game should have the 4th and final seed on the line.
Ohio St @ Rutgers on Saturday 4/20. This epic pillow fight should determine which team winds up in the cellar of the Big Ten standings.

The Terps are undefeated both in and out of Conference play. So far Northwestern is the only Big Ten team to lose to them by only single digits (4 goals).

I can't figure out why Michigan can't break through (or even get consistently better one step at a time) in M Lacrosse. I presume it's either recruiting or coaching, but I am not attentive enough to know. Anyway, I have to imagine this is by far Michigan's worst varsity sport.

If you examine their history, they have been getting consistently better, but not so much one step at a time as a two steps forward, one step back kinda thing.
They burst onto the scene with back to back one win seasons in 12 and 13. Then, they followed that up with back to back five win seasons in 14 and 15. In 16 they took that step back with a 3 win season, but then pressed on with back to back 8 win seasons in 17 and 18 where they got off to really hot starts and cracked the rankings, before getting chopped down to size by the buzz saw that is the Big Ten LC. So this season is another small step back, or a rebuilding year as some would call it. But yeah, two big ten wins in program history is a pretty rough start, although it's not exactly the easiest Conference to be an upstart program in.
