I only see upside. It’ll be a cheap contract they can get rid of him immediately if he doesn’t tow the line.

Mike Evans has been hobbled but he’s getting healthier. Godwin hasn’t really played at all, but he’s almost back. Throw in a fresh Antonio Brown....and holy shit.

I wonder how much you could learn looking at analytics of draft strategy and contract strategy to create a "formula" for winning NFL teams. I have to think there's been effort...

I've long believed that if you start at the OL and DL and work out from there that you're in the best strategy.

Great OL play make QBs and RBs look better, and QBs with time to read a defense and throw make the WRs look better. Obviously the LT position is well known for its importance, but I'd highlight the whole line. I don't know if you're better off doing this through draft or free agency, but I'd think it's safer to spend in free agency for stone cold locks rather than trying to develop guys via the draft...

Great DL play can slow down the running game and pressure the QB without elaborate blitzes, which allows you to throw more bodies at coverage. Again obviously the edge rushers are well known, but looking at guys like Aaron Donald show that having a guy who can both stop the run and disrupt the pass from the interior line is an advantage when everyone else is trying to pay up for the edge rushers.

I don't think you pay RBs in this league. It's arguably the shortest shelf life position in the league. Pick up them up in the draft, run out their rookie contract looking like a star playing behind your great OL, and then trade them for picks to stash new RBs.

But how to handle the other positions?
sometimes if there is a potentially ace QB out there you have to draft him.

for the most part the one constant for consistently good teams has been a good OL. Wentz probably hasn't regressed as a QB, but his OL made him better a couple years back and his OL is making him look crazy overpaid today. Good guards and centers are always undervalued in the draft and you can find them in rounds 2-5.

I think RBs are more important than most do. Refs do make it harder to pass in the playoffs. However get the other positions sorted 1st then draft or sign your RB. I also don't think resigning a top RB is a bad thing. As you can get a top 5 one for under 10M/year which some slot WRs make these days.

I would also probably run a 3-4 on D as well. IMO DL seem to have big bust potential if you draft them early. Also if you got a good DL you are gonna have to pay for it. Pass rushing OLBs are cheaper than 4-3 DEs and 3-4 MLBs are cheaper than DTs

they traded Diggs and Slay, its just him back there playing for a coach who doesn't know what he's doing.

the steelers will happily trade a 3rd rounder for him in 2023 and turn him into a quality starter.

Yeah, I'm not writing him off, but he has been easily the worst of the Lions' cornerbacks this year.

I think PFF has him as the lowest graded 1st round pick (with enough snaps) thus far this year.  It's just stupid stuff.  Like not knowing where the boundary is, and instead riding the receiver right into a PI.
