It's amazing how often people want to be what they aren't.  Rock stars wish they were athletes.  Basketball players wish they were musicians.  Dual-threats wish they were pocket passers.

And for the umpteenth time, someone's got to explain to me how a slow, shitty-throwing FB playing QB could finish his career with the 2nd-highest QB rating EVER, with as many pass TD as Peyton Manning and more rushing TDs than Herschel or Bo.
Must've been divine intervention, after all.
Tebow had great intangibles and was in a great system that fit his skills to a T, surrounded by a ton of talent with one of the best ever coaches pulling all the strings in Urban.

These are Wisconsin's only 5* recruits since 2000.

Oglesby never really lived up to that ranking, as he was often injured. But he did very well. Ostrowski was also always injured. He could have been something.

Hawthorne was a BEAST.

Brown and Rucci are brand new. Brown is seeing the field this season. Injured all last season.

Good a place as any to tout the book, the Courting of Marcus Dupree.  I know the 30-30 show is well regarded on the subject but the book is phenomenal on the subject of recruiting, sport, race and society.

Of course this was late70s-early 80s but the story remains relevant 40 years later .

Percy Harvin is one of my favorite all-time college players.   I'd bet he'd be the best flag football player of all time.   Him or Peter Warrick.

You should watch a Kadarius Toney highlight video on youtube.  Around half of his touches involve straight-up video game hijinks.

Funny, I was just looking at Iowa's list this morning and thought, "not a great hit rate here."

1. Kyle Williams LB: Never enrolled. Ended up going to Purdue before committing something terrible (I don't remember if it was rape or murder). He's in prison.

2. A.J. Epenesa DE: All-American, 2nd round pick

3. Tony Moeaki TE: Couldn't stay healthy. 2nd team All-B1G, 3rd round pick

4. Blake Larsen OT: Biggest bust since at Iowa since...? I do believe he dealt with some injuries.

5. Matt Roth DE: 2x All-B1G, 2nd round pick

6. Dan Doering OT: Massive bust

7. Dace Richardson OT: What coulda been... 1st team All-B1G. Missed all or major parts of 3 seasons with knee injuries.

8. Jeremiha Hunter LB: Solid player, but didn't live up to the ranking. 2nd team All-Big, UDFA

9. Jermelle Lewis RB: Looked to be special when filling in for Freddie Russell. Back-to-back knee injuries ended his career.

10. Bryan Bulaga OT: 1st team, 2nd team All-B1G, 1st round pick

... This is tiring, I'll summarize the rest. 11-25:

Drafted: 3

Still in school: 2

Transferred / dropped out: 4

Of note: he was dismissed from Purdue's program before that incident. It was IMHO either rape or aggravated battery of a woman, perhaps both? Something very very bad but not murder.

2. Ted Ginn Jr CB - Burst onto the scene with some amazing plays as a freshman and had a great career. Also had a long NFL career, although more of a journeyman path.
3. Julian Fleming WR - Has only played a bit this year behind Chris Olave.  Presumably will be a starter next year.
4. Noah Spence DE - A big recruit for Urban, was on his way to a big career but got into ecstasy which led to him getting suspended and transferring to Eastern Kentucky.  Was still a second round pick and is still in the league.
5. Nick Bosa DE - Great player who tore his groin early in his last season and sat out.
6. Beanie Wells RB - Big time running back, was a first round pick, but had lots of injury issues.
7. Sam Maldonado RB - A big time bust. I rembeber ESPN trying to run a OSU hit piece involving him, where they featured how OSU was mistreating him by refusing to play him despite the fact that he was overweight, not very good, and constantly missing class.  They put him in remedial classes, then decried that remedial classes wouldn't transfer to other colleges. He eventually finished at Maryland.
8. Nicholas Petit-Frere OT - Started this year for the first time.
9. Chase Young DE - All-American, 2nd overall draft pick
10. Jeff Okudah CB - same class as Young, All-American and 1st rd pick
11. Paris Johnson Jr OT - FR season 2020
12. Baron Browning LB - Somewhat underwhelming career, he is very athletic and gets playing time but hasn't really dominated the position like his star rating would suggest.
13. Alex Boone OT - Was a long time starter but got embarrassed against Florida in the BCS, also had a big alcohol problem.  Eventually did get a pretty good career in the league.
14. Zach Harrison DE - In his second year, hasn't quite popped off yet but seems ready to
15. Mike D'Andrea LB - Had constant injuries and never made much of an impact.  He does own a car dealership that I bought a car form.
16. Marco Cooper LB - FR season 2020 He's an old head who got arrested a bunch of times and kicked off the team in the early aughts
17. Derek Morris OT - Asked for release from his scholarship and never made it on the field.  Landed at NC State.
18. Donte Whitner CB - 1st rd pick at safety - One of my favorite players.
19. Michael Brewster C - Had a strong career for the Bucks but went undrafted
20. Jamario O'Neal CB - He always kind of sucked
21. Shaun Wade CB - Came back to play outside corner, which has gone up and down this year. A willing hitter and physical guy, not sure lockdown corner in the league.
22. Garrett Wilson WR - Been a hell of a receiver. Has one more year.
23. Donovan Jackson G -Future guy
24. Curtis Grant LB - Was a big time recruit but was never more than a solid starter
