Maybe it's his running style, I don't know.  Looks weird to me, like he's gotta take a dump and holding it in.

The opposite of Larry Johnson, PSU, actually.  When I picture him, his strides seem six yards long, like his foot stays on the ground too long and ends up far behind him before picking it back up to make his next stride.  

I'm weird.

I guess Johnson was sort of like Wheatley, in that he was too fast for his size.  But Wheatley ran really upright.

Makes me feel like an idiot.....gosh, all these tall RBs ran upright.  Or they were just tall.  LOL



I compare it to a "rising" fastball.  No pitch actually rises, but it looks like it does simply because it fails to fall at the normal angle.  It also falls, but more gradually.

Maybe tall RBs running upright is simply an optical illusion in the same way?

I was always shocked by Calvin Johnson running. He looked like he was out for a leisurely jog, and yet the fastest cornerback on the opposing team couldn't even dream of keeping up with him. Vince Young was a bit like that too...
I think it was just an illusion of a tall player with a long stride, compared to those little sparkplug RBs that looked like their legs were churning 1000mph on a hamster wheel...

My first memory of a bowl game is probably the 1978 Cotton Bowl.  Texas was undefeated, Earl Campbell had just won the Heisman, and those stoopid domers spoiled it all.

I always paid the most attention to the bowl game(s) that had an effect on the national title race.  So the games that stick out in my memory is framed by that.

1982 Sugar Bowl. Georgia vs. Penn St

1983 Orange Bowl. Miami vs. Nebraska

1986 Fiesta Bowl. Miami vs. Penn St

1987 Cotton Bowl- Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M.  I know I watched other Cotton Bowls prior to this but I remember this one because Tim Brown won the Heisman that year and during the course of the game he had a towel he was wearing around his waist taken by one of the A&M players and they kind of made a big deal about it. 

1991 Rose Bowl. Michigan vs. Washington.  So, here’s the thing.  There is obviously a big difference in the dates of the other bowl games and the date of this one.  I had watched several Rose Bowls prior but none of them really stick out to me in any way because, like I mentioned, I sort of paid attention to the games that would influence the polls for the MNC.  I don’t really remember any Rose Bowls prior to this one that really did that.  This is the first one I was really dialed into going into it.

I have a vague memory of 1979 Rose Bowl following the 1978 season when Charles White scored winning TD on play where he clearly fumbled before the goal line but the fumble was not called.

But my first good memory was from the 1980 Rose Bowl following the 1979 season.  USC vs.  OSU.  That was the first time  I had seen the script Ohio done by the OSU band,  followed by the USC band performing Tusk from the new Fleetwood Mac album.

Oh yeah the game was pretty good too.  Undefeated OSU vs.  Undeated USC.  Once again Charles White scores the winning TD with less than a minute to play. USC is named co-national champion.
