agreed.   i've seen a lot of Mertz,  first time I've seen the guy look poised/comfortable and not like one of my 6th grade kids looking to the parents in the stands/sideline coach/signals for approval

3 OC's in 3 seasons at UW. Rudolph, Chryst, Engram.

QB coach in 2020 was former Badger QB Jon Budmayr.
QB coach in 2021 was HC/OC Paul Chryst.
QB coach in 2022 was Bobby Engram - a WR/TE coach.

Yeah, that's gonna work out.

Sounds like Alex Smith in nfl.  He had something like 6 different coaches in six seasons.

I've had four different bosses this year.

Best thing about college football?
I keep getting older, but the girls stay the same age.

Nuts.  Isn’t the ND QB in his 6th year?  5th year as a starter?  Basically- an NFL QB.

yeah he's a 6th year guy, but that I don't mind too much as there has always been precedent for that in the past- it's not that uncommon. every player has 5 years of eligibility from the get go and sometimes an injury happens after a RS year and guys are able to petition for a medical 6th year and it's almost always granted. Whatever, ok. But that is where it should end, period imo.

Getting a 7th, 8th, and now 9th year? GTFO.

Olympic non rev sports have a lot of this too.  That covid year exception was a huge blunder.  So much bloat

I'm sort of unclear on what he'd be petitioning
2016 RS
2017 Played
2018 Lost to injury
2019 Lost to injury
2020 Free COVID, Lost to injury
2021 Lost to injury
2022 Full season
2023 Playing

I'm a little confused because it says in 2019 that he was granted two extra years of eligibility, which I didn't think was possible. But in any case, it's sort of a silly thing to get worried about. He's not gonna get an extra year. The fact he'd played a full season  and three games after four season-enders in a row is kinda bonkers as is. His doctoral work is gonna be interesting.

He had an underratedly weird career

True freshman starter who goes out and loses the job at some point (no idea if injured)
The other kid was pretty good, so he redshirts as a sophomore backup but starts one game
The other kid transfers to UGA, decides to sit out in an ill-informed draft decision, Hartman stays, starts, is not very good
Kicks as as a RS 4th year guy
Kicks ass in Year 5
ND offers a big bag and he puts off the NFL, which probably won't value him as much

Interesting ride to say the least
