Feel bad for Iowa. Come out to pay a game in the warm California sunshine and they might need an ark to get home :57:
Im not sure the weather envy you assume exists in the Midwest is all that real.

It's real, but not until like February. No one wants to go to California in the fall.

And yet some people pine for a day when 4 of those results were irrelevant
No, we pine for the days when bowls WERE relevant.

Now it's CFP or bust. If you're not in the CFP...

One of the happiest days of my life is the day that I threw away the ice scraper that I'd carried in the back of my car from the time I learned to drive, until I moved to CA.

Your Motor City bowl invite was just as irrelevant back then as it is today.

Back then nobody cared except the two teams that were in it.

Fast forward to today, and nobody cares except the two teams that are in it.

What exactly has changed?

Bowls were talked about. Programs getting bowl-eligible was mentioned. As the regular season wound down, prognosticators started evaluating which bowls each team might get into. The NC was a discussion of course, but it had to be a limited discussion because by week 9-10, the number of teams still having a realistic chance were generally counted on one hand.

Now, the only thing talked about is the CFP.

As Badge said, maybe this doesn't seem like a change to you, since your team was always in the NC discussion. So it's all you paid attention to. Now it's all there is.

In the 6 1/2 years I lived in the Midwest and could drive, I had to scrape my windows, brush snow off, etc many dozens of times. I even had probably 5-6 times that I was struggling with iced over car door locks.

In the 23 years I've lived in CA, I've never had my house destroyed by a wildfire and have never had a single thing damaged by an earthquake.
