I'll start with the three league games:
- Nebraska at Minnesota, Thursday, August 31 at 8pm on FOX
- Ohio State at Indiana, Saturday, September 2 at 330pm on CBS
- Northwestern at Rutgers, Sunday, September 3 at noon on CBS
IMHO the UNL@MN game is very important for both teams. I *THINK* Wisconsin is the favorite in the B1G-W but not by a prohibitive margin. I *THINK* that Purdue and Northwestern are more-or-less hopeless but I could be wrong. I see the B1G-W as pretty wide open so either the Cornhuskers or the Gophers could contend for or even win the last B1G-W title but I can't see the loser of this game getting there so I see this as almost an elimination game . . . in August.
The other two league games are less interesting to me because I just don't think that the Hoosiers and Wildcats stand much of a chance. Indiana is at home but Memorial Stadium turns into Horseshoe-West when the Buckeyes come to town so that doesn't really help and the hapless Wildcats are on the road.
The other eight B1G teams are all hosting and most or arguably all are hosting cupcakes:
- Michigan State hosts Central Michigan on Friday, September 1 at 7pm on FS1
- Michigan hosts ECU on Saturday, September 2 at noon on Peacock
- Iowa hosts Utah State on Saturday, September 2 at noon on FS1
- Purdue hosts Fresno State on Saturday, September 2 at noon on BTN
- Wisconsin hosts Buffalo on Saturday, September 2 at 330pm on FS1
- Maryland hosts Towson on Saturday, September 2 at 330pm on BTN
- Penn State hosts West Virginia on Saturday, September 2 at 7pm on NBC
- Illinois hosts Toledo on Saturday, September 2 at 730pm on BTN
MSU, M, IA, UW, and UMD are playing definite cupcakes. Losses would be catastrophic and even a competitive game would be seriously concerning.
Fresno State puts out some good teams and Purdue is in a major rebuild so that game could be a big challenge for the Boilermakers.
West Virginia is usually pretty good but they look to be a bit of a mess this year and PSU looks to be really good so I just can't see this game being competitive. Maybe in Morgantown but not in Happy Valley.
Toledo is typically a really good MAC team so maybe they'll be able to put up a fight in Champaign but I doubt it.
