The Big Ten did that in 1981 and 1982.

Everybody played 9 games except for Iowa and Ohio St.  Of course Iowa and Ohio St tied for first with 6-2 records and Iowa and Ohio St did not play each other.  Iowa ended up going to the Rose Bowl because the 3rd tiebreaker was who had gone the longest since their last Rose Bowl.

In 1983 and 1984 the Big Ten went with a full round robin 9-game schedule.  Illinois went 9-0 in 1983 and is the only team in Big Ten history to beat every team in the conference.

In 1985 the Big Ten went back to 8 games,  which lasted until 2016, when the Big Ten started playing 9 games.

Iowa was a special case those years, if I remember right. They had Nebraska and ISU on the schedule and a couple of PAC schools. I don't think they could get out of any of those. I don't know the OSU circumstances.

Yes,  in 1981 and 1982 Everybody in Big Ten played 9 conference games except for Iowa and Ohio St,  who played 8 games.

Iowa's ooc opponents in 1981 were Nebraska, Iowa St and UCLA.  This was the age when Big Ten teams played no cupcakes.

Not sure how the ACC is going to pick their 2 teams for the CCG in 2026.

If hypothetically 2 teams are 7-2 and 2 teams are 6-2 in conference,  who goes to the CCG?

Given the fallout from the ACC champion being left  out of the CFP in 2025, I wonder if they will just have the 2 highest ranked teams play in the CCG, regardless of conference record.

Is it the five who play ND that are playing 8 game ACC schedules?

The five teams playing 8 games are Flor St, Clem, GT, UNC and BC.

Notre Dame's opponents in 2026 include 6 ACC schools:
UNC, Miami, BC,  Stanford, Cuse and SMU.

So no.

I guess Flor St, Clem and GT make sense because they have to play their in-state rival at the end of the year.  But using that logic,  Louisville should have been included too.

So I am not sure how the 5 teams were picked for 2026.   But sounds like its just a one year thing anyway.  In 2027 they will have 16 teams play 9 games and only 1 team play 8 games.

Well, that and the obvious antitrust problems the NCAA institutions have had for a long time with paying everyone except the players, particularly as the amount of those payments blew into the stratosphere.
