ND really belongs in the Great Lakes Conference. Do that, push Kentucky into the Southeastern (where it historically belongs), and push Clemson back into the Eastern Conference...

There's probably a way to save Illinois for the Great Lakes, too, too, but I feel less bad for Illinois in this scenario than for the state of Mississippi.

A&M, Texas, OU, oSu, Arkansas, LSU, Texas Tech. Those core schools would make a great conference. Don’t know who the other 3-4 schools would be but you could take your pick from SMU/Baylor/TCU.

Ha!  Ann Richards often laughed about that.  But it wasn't her, it was actually Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock who asserted his considerable political clout at the time of the formation of the B12.  He held degrees from both Baylor and Texas Tech.

Joke was on him then because Baylor was little more than a punching bag for the first 10-15 years they were in the conference.

Cal of course can fund athletics because of TV revenue alone if necessary.  They may have few fans, but their opponents often have fans who watch.

You should see the GaTech stadiuim when they play Clemson at home.
