I'm flabbergasted that the Dallas Cowboys weren't once mentioned in that whole conversation.
It's not just about Saturday, it's about a weekend. SMU and TCU are 'other' programs for several reasons, one big one being the Cowboys own most football fans' wallets in the DFW area and far and wide around Texas itself.
The LA teams have had NFL teams off and on, which isn't "good" for pulling fans/$$$ away. So USC and UCLA don't have that excuse.
But again, I find it odd for the CA teams to build huge stadiums 100 years ago, even if they sold out for a game, season, or even a decade. None of them have had sustained sellout crowds, a la a Nebraska (no one has), Texas, Florida, OSU, or even a South Carolina.
Sure, Stanford had 94,000 in 1935 for their game against Cal, but the very next season, averaged 25,000 per game. That's A LOT of empty seats for a lot of years. Perhaps that's why they eventually demolished it and build a stadium with half the capacity.
