I don't know if he's being selfish without understanding his personal financial situation.  If he needs money to support his family, OK with me, if he needs it to buy a Ferrari, not so much.
Well, he is not leaving over money- per his own words and his father’s.    He is unhappy with playing time.

it has been my consistent experience and observation that playing time is decided, based upon effort, practice habits, and competition between players. Guys that complain about it are usually not playing as well as they think they are.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Character is a thing difficult to assess in an 18 year old 5 star player with a ton of talent.

the entire coaching staff needs to handle this playing time issue as well as possible.
I'm talkin bout communication with the players.

not talkin bout caving to players demands

It's definitely high stakes for these kids. They have a limited window to cash in on their talent and work. This guy obviously was looking to get to the NFL but can't start for two different teams. Running out of chances.

free agency hasn't killed NFL football or MLB yet
Those sports have guardrails. CFB has none.

In the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, you have contracts. You move around via free agency (after your contract expires), trade, or retirement.

In CFB, you move around whenever you want.

This is gonna happen a lot now.

It will.

There is something I find a little funny about it because since forever fans have often hoped that a talented guy on a team can redshirt to extend the value the kid provides their own team. While kids didn’t want to just sit and not play football.

Obviously creating some value for playing college football changes the math, but I’ve wondered if some of this is also because these kids grew up in the “roster building” era. I.e. they have started seeing their careers in the way that fans have for a long time

Get to work out every day with the best trainers. Get fed every day by the best nutritionists. Get to sleep in a free house. Get tutored by the best teachers. Play Skool when I feel like it.

Work... LMAO.

I think most of them work very hard, year round, certainly as compared with me (and I go to the gym nearly every day, but not remotely like these folks of course).  I've seen Nick Chubb videos, he's probably an outlier of course.  I think the "laziest" scholarship player on Vandy works much harder than most of us in terms of phtsical activity/sweat/metabolism increase/etc.

No doubt many don't work as hard "playing school".  Those muscles don't just appear from nothing.

Working out is not WORK.

We all do it (I think) and WE have to take time away from WORK to work out.

One factor often not mentioned is the mental acuity to learn and play even on defense.  I've seen some 5 stars that looked like obvious superstars, but "heard" they simply couldn't be relied upon to do assignment football, they played like they did in HS, as an individual.  Playing OL takes even more mental facility.

Imagine having a physical stud player who simply can't or won't play the scheme you lay out.  "You need to fill the A gap, not run around trying for a sack on every play."
