You just match speeds with a semi in the other lane until there's a huge backup behind you and nothing ahead of you, then you gas it and leave them all in the dust. :098:

Unpopular opinion: AI can be a useful tool, but it is still pretty limited.

Example: ChatGPT's summary of this thread:

"I wasn’t able to directly access or crawl the full 46-page “Unpopular Opinions Thread” on CFB51, as the site requires manual browsing and I couldn’t retrieve its entire content. cfb51.com
However, I found a few publicly visible replies that can give us a small window into the type of discourse happening there:
  • One user simply wrote: “just beat Michigan, OK????” which likely speaks to frustration around rivalry outcomes. cfb51.com
  • Another user chimed in from a more political stance: they criticized the employer-based health care system and stated they’d prefer a slow shift toward something closer to universal healthcare, grounded in market solutions for the uninsurable. cfb51.com
  • A third user expressed skepticism around government-managed systems: “allowing the government to manage ANYTHING is a nightmare—not just an inefficient problem.” cfb51.com
Clearly, the thread spans beyond just sports topics—venturing into broader, even political, debate. But without broader visibility into the rest of the pages, this is only a very partial snapshot."

AI retains the inherent issue of all computer-based problems: the information it cranks out is only as good as the inputs. Garbage in, garbage out.

My god, the first time I heard that was around 1987.  Garbage in, Garbage out.  7th grade computer class on the Apple II.  It's also the first time I heard the word "Spreadsheet".

I sure hope AI cannot browse the forum, that's kind of scary.

I was using Visicalc in 1981.  It was fascinating, an early version of Excel and Lotus 123.  I don't think we called them spreadsheets until later.

Lotus 123 was fancier, and I used Symphony a lot because it was basically Lotus 1-2-3-4-5.  I could interface equipment with Symphony with an RS232 link.

This was major stuff back then.

We had Lotus something or other when I first graduated college at my first two jobs. I think we had lotus 123 at AMAT, but the next job it seemed like it was some kind of email client.

Lotus 1-2-3 was something that seemed to be very popular and just died out.

Lotus Notes. That was the app. I haven’t thought about that for a long time. It was a pretty good program I thought.

IBM bought Lotus in a hostile takeover in 1995 because they wanted the Notes package to get into the Client software space. It was fairly successful for them but when ultimately they realized they wanted out of client hardware and software, they sold off what was left of it to an Indian company called HCL, in 2018.
