Flew from ORD to HNL on a 747 back in the day. I think that was the only time.

Back from Ft. Lauderdale/ Miami.

The traffic is hellish.  At any hour, on any day.

It's "season" and "we" all can't wait for "them" to go home in April.

Quebec seems to be the biggest offender.  French Canadians everywhere.

They obviously stood out the most.

We did meet some nice folks from Minnesota, though.

Permanent residents are not a problem. The more, the merrier.

Services and infrastructure will respond to increased population. They do not respond to snowbirds. They get buried for 4 months.

I always wanted to fly on a 747.  They seem to be somewhat uncommon these days, I don't travel by air a lot, probably around 20 flights total in my life and the farthest I flew was probably either Tx to San Francisco or Tx to Mn, not sure but I think San Fran is farther.

Anyways I looked it up, Lufthansa flies from IAH (Houston) to Frankfurt Germany via a 747.  Never been to Europe.  Now that my kids are mostly grown I've been kicking around the idea of maybe going via 747.  Looks like a 9 hr flight.
I've flown on a 747 twice. Once when I was a kid HNL-MSP (when Northwest was using their older 747s on that route), and then back from our honeymoon on Lufthansa FRA-ORD. Don't remember much of the first one, but the flight back on the 747 really shows the interior size of the 747 compared with other mid-size widebodies. It felt like a large living room flying.

Nah, I took Allegiant out of FLL.  FLL is tiny, way overcrowded, and not well run ... a terrible airport.

And whomever said Allegiant is pretty good.....lied.  It was direct from Memphis, and fairly cheap --- and that's where the good parts stop.

(I'll do it again for those reasons, however.)

What did you not like about Allegiant, @jgvol ?

The delay both leaving (1.5 hours) and returning (2.5 hours).

The switching gates 3 times on the latter, the total lack of communication by the airline, other than vague text alerts.  I did ask the crew waiting at our gate, "what's going on?"  They said it's Allegiant --- "no idea,....we're used to it, and we just go with the flow. *laughs*".

The fellow travelers were loud, disruptive, and couldn't/wouldn't follow basic instruction (not the airline's fault, but the devil you deal with with cheap fares).

The lack of anything complimentary, including water.  $37 for a carry on LOL

The landing at FLL that was so hard all of the overheads bins popped open, and the locking up of the brakes to stop the plane.  Pretty wild.

The staff was kind and helpful at the bag drop off ticketing desk.

My rankings of airlines that I've flown the last 10 years:

1.  Delta
2.  American
3.  Allegiant
4.  United

Hmm. Clientele has not been an issue for us - probably because we live in a retirement town. We don't get really littered with spring break either - beaches are not a close drive (they are by boat).

When we travel on Allegiant, we check one large bag ahead of time. It's $50.00. We always sit in the front too, which is a little more. We show our Allegiant card and get a free cocktail, and we always bring our own water jugs from home.

Allegiant is quirky for sure. I love the crews we've had. Fun people. During Covid I was on a flight with them. They talked about Federal Law and masks (so did American for a while) so I went up front to ask when congress passed the mask law.

Of course, they were around the corner in the galley and not wearing masks. They laughed at my question and admitted the statement was wrong.

Then I showed them my mask. It was the "Unmask" brand that looked like a mask, but totally breathable. They took down the name. Next time I saw them they were wearing them.

Got a few free cocktails out of that one.

Mine was black.

I'd choose direct via Allegiant over a layover with a legacy carrier 10/10 times.

I've had some delays with Allegiant, never been canceled. Latest travel data shows them middle of the pack for on-time performance.

The "OMG, FEES!" argument always cracks me up. It's $75+ to upgrade from Basic to Main on a legacy carrier to get that "free" carry-on, seat assignment, and soda.

We also have the Allegiant card. The miles earn sucks, but free priority check-in and drink each way pays for the annual fee after 2 legs. The priority check-in alone makes it worth it.

Badge, if you haven't already done so, you can add your wife as an AU for $0 and you will each get a free drink since you have two separate cards. Hat tip to a flight attendant for that info.

Which brings me to their FA's. Overall, pretty good. Usually very laid back and tolerant, don't see much of the attitude prevalent with legacy carrier FA's. For FA's, I'd put Southwest 1st, Allegiant 2nd.

We flew in and out of FLL once. Both my wife and I couldn't remember anything about it other than a long walk to the rental car counter. So I guess I'd rank it middle of the pack for FL airports.

Yep, my wife has her own card. We signed up at the same time and got 50K points. We don't use them other than to book travel with Allegiant and sometimes rental cars. We don't have an annual fee for some reason.
