St. Maarten dining scene on Grand Case is elite, at least it was before whatever year of that hurricane landing.

St. Martin is like Wisconsin Dells or Branson or fill in blank tourist trap.

St. Maarten, not bad.  I would avoid St. John’s.  Hot down here.
St. Martin, on the other hand... Not good. Agree on St. John's.
Tell me more.

We've been trying to align our daughters' schedules to get to USVI for the last couple years. My wife is interested in St. John b/c it's "the prettiest." We are beach during the day / cook dinner at home type vacationers, so the non-existent nightlife in St. John is not a big deal for us. Other reasons to avoid St. John?

I'm totally down with the beach during the day part.

Whilst on vacation, I prefer others to cook for me at night.

For me that's the difference between a "trip" and a "vacation."  I've had plenty of the former, and not nearly enough of the latter.

yup, on a week long vacation, I don't mind using the kitchen one night, but rather have someone else do chores the rest of the week

We're not beach people at all, which is why I don't mind that my town doesn't have any.

I'm definitely a beach guy.

I used to be a snow skiing and mountains guy, but now I find snow skiing to be cold and miserable, and it turns out I only really liked the mountains, for the snow skiiing.

Every now and then my i s c & a aggie wife talks about wanting to spend summer vacation time in the mountains, and I have absolutely no interest in that. Of course when she has her annual all-girls' trip each summer, they choose the beach every single time.  So it's not REALLY her main interest, I think she's just testing me or something...
