We were advised to not wear sunglasses. We didn't. A guy in our group did and the monkeys took them from him - right off his face.

Our cruise next year has a stop at Gibraltar, it's transatlantic, so some days at sea, ends in Barcelona.

Looking forward to it, but over a year off, next cruise is out of Rome to Greek isles etc.

That would be very nice, we did one somewhat similar except for the part east of Italy.

My step daughter lives in Marseille, along with a couple other friends, so we've spent some time there.

We have not yet spent much time in Rome, so this would add some to that.  We take a couple days before the cruise mostly to adjust to the time zone, and then a couple after to look around before flying back.  My wife wants to stay the last two days at the Waldorf there, which "looks nice".  All I really want is a place that is clean with good mattresses in a decent location.

Hotel Artemide Rome | Boutique hotel Rome center, Official Website

The other time we went we did a B&B.

We get some pretty nice bonuses at Hiltons in Europe and Asia (not so much in the US), so we tend to stay in that chain.

The exec lounges overseas are usually very nice and saves us a lot of money.

I suppose I should give Hilton a try over there. I've not done it.

Without access to the exec lounge, I wouldn't prefer Hilton over other chains or options.  They give one "free" buffet breakfast and basically "free" dinner, if you want, with whatever wine you want.  The Conrads in Seoul and Tokyo were amazing.  And I might have enough points to stay "free" on occasion.

Hilton's prices in Rome are ridiculous. No way I'm staying in their products over the boutique hotels and B&B's.
