Spent the week in Fort Lauderdale for a conference.   Spring break debauchery at hotel bar and of course at that filthy Elbow room.

They should be kicked out.

The parents, not the kids.

I hate checking my bag b/c I hate waiting around baggage claim, but when I'm traveling with my wife she always needs to check one, so I usually check mine as we're going to be waiting around baggage claim anyway, so I don't have to lug it around the terminal.

I generally fly American, where I have the AAdvantage branded credit card so they exempt us from baggage fees, or Southwest where they didn't charge.

Now, with Southwest starting to charge, I'm going to have the worst of both worlds... Still have to wait at baggage claim b/c my wife does, but will have to lug mine around the terminal.

That's gonna piss off a lot of their loyal customers, I think.

We never check bags.  Even when we were gone for 30 days last year, we both took one carry on and one backpack each for all our things. We did laundry twice during the trip.  I just don't trust the airlines not to lose our baggage and I hate waiting to get my baggage after the flight.

We are going on a 38 day trip in April/May, we are debating whether to check a bag this time, but I am still leaning to just doing the 2 carryons and 2 backpacks.

Where the changes in Southwest hurt us, is the expiration of the flight.

We generally fly Southwest.  We have a southwest credit card where we charge almost all of our expenses.  Because of this we spent enough to earn a free companion pass for the year, every year for the past few years.  And then with the points earned we purchase many if not most of our flights with points and then companion free. So we fly completely free for most of our flight.  The only disadvantage is we fly quite a bit east and there are very few direct flights (another reason not to check bags)
