Impressions of Boston ...
This was my second visit, the first we stayed at a friends house in the suburbs but toured a good bit. This time we stayed in "Back Bay", rather close to Fenway Park and NE University. The Museum of Fine Art Boston is quite impressive, I usually eschew art museums, I enjoyed this one. The other one nearby, the Isabella Stewart Garner museum was ... a bit odd for us. We had a lot of good food, some of the meals were part of our visiting group. We had a nice tour of Music Hall where we later attended a concert with the Atlanta Music Director directing the BSO (Natalie Stutzman). This was her directorial debut there though she had sung opera there several times dating back decades. She was a contralto back when. We enjoyed the concert a lot.
The buildings are fairly old in that area, there are some parks around that would be nice in spring. I noticed a lot of young Asians, probably students at NE or the other Us in that area. A Lyft to the airport was about $35 though it's close to downtown. We walked otherwise. It was cold but we noted some folks in shorts and a lot more in light coats while we were in heavy coats and glovers and scarves and hoods. There were some homeless around which I thought a bit odd in the weather. Maybe they found a shelter somewhere.
The streets are not in good shape, and oddly street signs were often missing, making navigation a bit of a chore. There are some taller buildings dotted around, most are 4-5-6 floors apartment style. We were near the indoor Prudential Mall with a lot of shops, another adjacent mall had high end stores, both were pretty crowded with folks, which I thought unexpected with malls disappearing. This allowed us to stay inside walking in one direction at least.
Food was good but pricier than here. Some places had a 3.5% surcharge. We'd like to go back, maybe in June.
