Yeah, the Colorado Plateau is about as scenic as it gets. Up top, it doesn't appear to be particularly mountainous. Fairly flat pine forest with some rolling hills. But then every creek that you come across is a miniature version of the Grand Canyon. Or in some instances it's the actual Grand Canyon.

How was Dahl and DeLuca?

I meant to tell you to ask for Lisa (Dahl). Last time we were there we met with her, and she signed her cookbook for me.

It's a good one.

I discovered this quaint overlook in Kaibab NF north of Jacob Lake, which is the North Rim turnoff. It's the best view of the "Grand Staircase" that you are going to find;  a series of cliffs that are each a different color. Well you can pretty much see all of Southern Utah from that overlook, from Pine Mountain in St George to Navajo mountain out by Lake Powell and everything in between.

It's a perspective you can't get by actually visiting the monument, where you drive across the entire thing and wonder "where in the Hell is this grand staircase?"

This weekend I knocked out Valley of Fire and Lake Mead in Nevada.

Valley of Fire was pretty spectacular, but Lake Mead was a ghost town. Using my GPS, the original water level was 1200 feet, but the current water level is 1000 feet. So all the infustructure is like two miles from the current shoreline, rendering it all rather useless. A lot of it was boarded up and shut down.

Of course the hidden gem of Palm Springs was on the menu, since I was already in the area.
