So, someone asked a good question, why travel? Is it just "something to do"? Do you enjoy it? Is it interesting? Good questions, I think, with different answers for different folks (duh).
My least favorite aspect is "checking boxes", e.g., "We're in Paris, we need to see the Eifel Tower (etc.)", check, Notre Dame (check), and so forth. I've never been in the Louvre, don't really intend to go, box unchecked.
My most favorite is visiting with locals, and the food (usually). You can better get a feel of a place with locals. We spent two weeks in Copenhagen, we both really liked that, not just the city, but the unhurried pace that this much time affords.
I'm interested in military history so I'll often make a side trip for that reason. I find the terrain of battlefields is a lot different in person than on maps in photos. (Waterloo terrain was significantly altered anyway.) And museums of that ilk interest me, if not so much my wife. We toured the Maginot Line, it's clearly impressive. We both like wine and wine tours can be interesting.
Then of course there are scenic parts, we both enjoyed Zion for example. I can sit at my computer and see a lot of this stuff but it makes me want to see them in person.
Then there is "going to the beach", somewhere just to relax and take it easy. I think this is more a thing for folks still working. I can relax pretty well here at home without all the trouble.
It obviously comes down to choices, do you want to play golf at the same course over and over and over? Maybe so. Eat the same set of meals all the time? Fine. Listen to the same music, see the same scenes, are you missing out not traveling? Up to you.
