I have thought it a bit weird that in English we sometimes change the names of cities, not just phonetically or out of Kanji et al, but the prounced name.

Munich isn't pronounced that way in German, nor is Moscow in Russian, Beijung used to  be Peiking.

They call it Istanbul now, and fine with me.  It once was Byzantium, and probably something before that.  Atlanta once was Terminus, and then Marthasville.

I'm looking forward to visiting it with our neighbor (who is from Ankara but knows the city well).

So if you owned a National Park Pass, and this was your range, what would you do?

Everyone loves Zion and Bryce.
Grand Canyon North Rim is nice/far less busy than the South Rim.
Canyon De Chelly (Shay) would be brief.
Chaco Culture brief as well, but that hiking is all on flat land. Canyon De Chelly is straight up and down (switchbacks).
Mesa Verde is very spread out, but with many cliff dwellings that you can go to.  They have oversized, wooden ladders to help you up and down.
Everyone likes Arches.
Vermillion Cliffs.....are accurately labeled, lol.  There's a rope ferry near there, too.  But not a lot there.

I saw some of those when traveling, fortunately on females, not males, and young females who were not obese.  There is a lady in our bldg who sunbathes by the pool which is visible from the elevator lounge who wears a thong thingee, and she's not all that attractive.

I guess it doesn't  take many yards of fabric these days to cover the necessaries just "barely"....

This reminds me of my drive home from work.
I pass by a high school as it lets out.  Tons of students are walking along the road or at a bus stop.
I feel bad for today's HS boys.
We all know how high school girls like to dress and push the envelope.  That's fine, it's always been the case, and it is what it is.
But when I was in HS, only the fit girls would do it.  Today?
Pfffft.
Every shape and size dress inappropriately now.  I guess it's "progress," but it's not doing those boys' eyes any favors.

Places I would not travel to:

Outside of the obvious (China, Russia, North Korea, Iran) of course.

Africa
Eastern Europe
Much of the Carribean
Most of South America
Most of Central America
Most of Mexico
The Middle East (including Israel)
Some of SE Asia
Papua New Guinea (cannibals)

Probably some more I'm leaving out.

We hope to visit South Africa at some point, with our friend.  I'm not really interested any more in the Caribbean.  I would avoid Israel now for sure, I thought it was fine when we were there last year.  I guess Istanbul is in eastern Europe.  I'd go to Poland, not really high on my list.

We have Taiwan on our itinerary, obviously that could change, hopefully not, and Hong Kong.  India sounds interesting, we will only touch it for three days though.  I'd go to Nepal/Tibet.

Our crazy Turk friend goes to crazy places in Africa, he's in Algeria at the moment.  But he goes to Zambia/Congo/Guyana/Ethiopia, etc.  He's says they are "OK" mostly.

He traveled the "Solk Road" a couple years back starting in eastern China ending in Pakistan.  I'd avoid the latter, and probably the former.

I'm not going to NE for fresh oysters. I'll be getting some tomorrow from the farmer's market.
