Just got back from a long weekend in New Orleans. I probably ate my weight in oysters.

Can't wait to get back.

I really missed something in NO somehow, I didn't like it at all, nor did my wife (who had been once before).  Part of this was being led about by our French artist friend who claimed to know where to go and what to do.

I've liked most larger US cities I've visited, even NYC and SF.

I didn't have the best experience in NO either

part of that was the person I was with

part of it was just a dirty, smelly, seedy area of the city

didn't spend much time on bourbon street

Bourbon Street sucks.  If you spend more than 3 minutes on Bourbon street and you're over the age of maybe 24, you've made a terrible mistake.

As I've said before, you have to actively try, not to find great food and a good time in New Orleans.  Your guides/companions must have really sucked.

Our dining was mundane in crowded places

Tons of good restaurants take reservations.  Not sure why you'd ever need to eat at a crowded place.

I've said it before and I'll say it again-- your friends suck at being guides.

The best fancy meal was at La Petit Grocery

https://www.lapetitegrocery.com/

Best deal on raw oysters was $1 per ($12/dozen) during happy hour at Superior Seafood & Oyster Bar

https://www.superiorseafoodnola.com/

Fantastic general Cajun/Creole/Southern fare at one of our usual stops, Mother's:

https://www.mothersrestaurant.net/

More general Cajun/Creole/seafood fare at Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar and Fish House in the Quarter:

https://mredsrestaurants.com/oyster-bar/new-orleans-menu

And some more tasty general Cajun/Creole/seafood in a dive-bar atmosphere in the quarter at Coop's Place:

https://www.coopsplace.net/

We also usually hit up Acme Oyster Bar and/or Felix's but didn't get by either, this trip.
